Hi Guys
I've started loading for my 86 winny in 45-90.I have been using corn meil for filler as I'm using smokless powder in a bp gun so there's lots of room left in the brass.I'm just wondering about miosture probs come fall when deer hunting in november.Would like to know if I should keep using corn meil or change to something else that might be better in the casing when the shells are in and out of camp, pockets, etc. where moisture might be a prob.
Will corn meil leave any or much buildup in the barrel compaired to other fillers ?.I want to make sure the barrel is as free as possible of foran particles that might make a second shot not as accurate or hurt what's left of the rifling which isn't much at all.I want to keep it as cheap as possible too.
Any help would be great !

For reduced loads in my .45-70 I used to use shredded pieces of cotton balls but a shooting buddy put me on to something that works even better, more uniform and doesn't leave any residue in the bore. The product I use is called Stopdrafts made by Tago. It's a light density round foam used for stopping drafts and weather stripping. What I do is note the length from the top of the powder charge to the top of the case, minus the depth the bullet goes into the case and cut this product to that length, or close to it. On firing the cartridge all you notice is like a puff of dust. Works great and I believe I picked it up at Home Depot.

Try Trail Boss. It's very light and fills the case well, while providing excellent accuracy and replicating black powder pressures.

Here's the link to Hodgdon's reloading data website:

(they don't have 45-90, but they've got 45-70 and 45-120)
