I just picked up the latest issue of Guns & Ammo Surplus Firearms magazine.
On the bottom righthand corner in yellow letters is

FINAL ISSUE
1987-2012​

A farewell from the Editor is on page 4-5

That is the only magazine I ever buy as there isn't a pile of advertisements in it.

I am going to miss the magazine.

Thanks Mr Poole, Guns & Ammo for the years of interesting reading on Surplus Firearms.

There were some left on the newstand shelf. If anyone wants to pay for a magazine and shipping I can pick one up and ship to you.

Did they give a reason for ending the run? None of my local newstands would carry it regularly but I always picked up a copy when it came out.
 
I reckon I've bought them all. Lately, they'd taken to reprinting stuff. There are limits to what one can say about a rifle in 10,000 words that a mass market audience can absorb.

I've enjoyed the series, but it's certainly time to put it to bed. If they'd reprint the entire run as a hardcover book, it would serve nicely as an overview of the field...
 
After reading this post, I went to my gun magazine friendly variety store. They had 2 left. I bought them both.
One for myself & if some CGH'r does not hace access to a store, contact me. You can have the second one at my cost plus actual shipping.
 
For those in Calgary, Billy's News on 7th Ave at Centre St. South still has about a dozen copies left.

Great mag, and I regret not having the whole set.
 
I would like to get some of the early ones for my library. I was disappointed this issue has so many reprints.

A hard cover book would be great similar to the one put out a year or two ago.
"Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World" I think the pictures are from "Men at Arms Gun Collector" from the NRA
 
I'm fine with reprints.I don't have and most likely never will have access to first 10 or so issues so it's still new to me.Even reprints seem to have new,much better pictures in them and few interesting detail inserted.

Hard cover book with all articles would be very good idea.I just hope ALL articles will be there,not just selected ones.
 
Better yet, we should just scan them page by page and put them in a Stickie here.

Over the few years, there was just lots of repeat articles in them, wrong information, bubba-ed examples in the articles, etc...
 
I purchased the first one in 1987 as a wee lad in secondary school! The latest issues had a LOT of reprinted articles... Why, with all the milsurps out there, couldn't they just write new articles? And why no more issues??
 
It is never good to see the end of any firearm related publication.

That said, I have always found G&A to like everything they review, always have a strong bias in favour of American designs (Which is fine, but please just admit the bias in advance), and their articles are often rife with inaccuracies and suppositions.

I can remember having a 1994 annual, and a 2004 annual, and not seeing much difference between the two.

If you still have the extra copy I'll buy it. Let me know the cost and I'll get you paid. Unfortunately the only magazine stand that carried hunting & shooting books in my areq closed last year. Postal Code is A0A 4J0. :)
 
Pretty sad and predicts the end of milsup collecting as we have known it for 60+ years.

Milsups/Government stocks are drying up. Milsup collecting is becoming more and more "Collecting"; with rifles commanding higher and higher prices. Sadly an end of an era with a sun that will set within the next 10-20 years.
 
i leafed through it, can't say there was much of interest in it other than an article on the gras and the FN 1922. lots of reprints.
