Open House / Practice
Sept 18 - 19, 2010

Sat 18th - Briefing - Coaching/Training
Sun 19th - Briefing - Coaching/Training

This is an event to train new comers and practice shooting a long ranges.

Nokomis has berms out to 1200 yds for those that want to try ultra long range. All SPRA matches include target rifle and its sub class (Master, Expert, Sharpshooter and Greenshot) and FClass, both Open and FF with no bullet weight restriction or support restriction. The club house has a full kitchen and a shower, plus you can even sleep there if you want. The Nokomis hotel 6 miles west of the range also has room to rent, and they are cheap, like around $35 / night and you can even split it with another shooter dropping your lodging costs to under $20 each! I know a few from MB even triple up there so about $12 each! Nokomis range fees are usually $30 per day and that includes target markers so all you do is shoot bullets and the breeze with others like minded. Hope to see a few newbie's and all my ol' buds at the PPRA and/or the training day.

Will the range/clubhouse be opening up on the Friday before the match? My flight gets in that morning, and it'd be nice to be able to head up to Nokomis and unwind before the beer... erm, I mean the bullets... start to fly. :D

I will be there on Friday, so yes, I will have the gate and clubhouse open for you and I plan on bring a 22 Anny for the gophers that bug us while we are shooting, have not have any bite anyone yet but.... see ya there Abbey.

Question for ya: You renting a car or do you need a ride??? I hope Stan is coming so you know at least one of us LOL.

A ride would be lovely but would also entail returning me to the airport in time for a 6am return flight on Tuesday morning...

Not sure if Stan is coming or not, but don't think I should have a problem finding a familiar face or two... Dale L and I have a bet going on whether I really show up, he thought I was pulling his leg when I said I'd be at Nokomis next week. :D

That is do-able, I live in S'toon and have to work at 8 am Tuesday morning... but that is flexable too... email me at kodiak99317@sasktel.net and I will give you my phone number... or better yet, you give me your number since I have 24/7 free calling in North America :) and we can set something up if you wish...

I will be home from work in about an hour from now... around 4:15 pm

I've been given an hall pass from the home office to attend the PPRA.

I'll be coming out with Gerry W (F/TR). See you in a couple of weeks.

Do we need to organize a team ahead of time for Monday or will it be like a game of road hockey, just put the guns in a pile and have someone throw them randomly into groups?

It is always an "at the line" thing usually so no pre-planning needed. Les, bring an extra 36 rounds and we can play at 1000 on Saturday (2+10) and 1100 on Sunday and 1200 on Monday!! It would be a hoot man and your 7mm will really shine out there!! Already told Taylor and he is in. I will call the locals and tell them too!! I will do the math and post the results of this extra LR extra there for us. I'm sure the PPRA exec would not have any issues with this add-on to the match and it is not that much extra for the kids pulling targets. They will not even know, except for the wide shots in the let-ups LOL.

NOTE: THIS IS NOT PART OF THE REGULAR PPRA AGG. IT STANDS BY ITSELF FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO SHOOT IT.

It's road hockey at best, with some elementary schoolyard back alley mixed in ... you try and split the teams up equally ... I have to miss Monday, to visit family in SK on my way back ... still have to book a room at Watrous (stayed at Nokomis once already - that firetrap won't last 10 minutes in an blaze IMHO). Look forward to seeing you & Gerry out there Les!

Extra rounds loaded and ready! If we really want to have fun, we could do something similar to the "Albert" Match Rifle event at Bisley: 15 rounds to count at 1000, 1100 and 1200... no sighters. :D

BIlly bring 30 rounds for score and say 5 sighters at each extra yardage and we will go long!!! out to 1200!! I'm streading the word!!!

Got'em ... just as long as it doesn't cut into the beer aspect! I'm finishing my experiment with the Berger 210's this year at long range. Next year is the Berger 190's - should be interesting to see the added distances!

Abbey, we can ask the guys what everyone that is in wants and see... my guess is most will want 2+10 at 1000 & 1100 and unlimited sighters at 1200 and 10 for score. This will all depend on the weather too if it gets too bad the big sales (LR 8x6's) are dangerous for the target crew, but we can always put up 600's and shot at them from 1200 LOL. Heck, some of us have used 300M targets for this very thing in high winds :) Yes you get lots of outers and very few V's with a 300M at 1200 yds in high winds LOL.

Ahhh, sounds just like Bisley this summer: the Match Rifle guys know exactly how many minutes of wind there are... between targets, LOL.

Can't wait!! w:h:

Hi, does one have to pre-register for this shoot?
Directions, where is the range? Any other recomendations for hotels/motels?
Will there be grub there to buy or does one have to make up a grub basket/water?
Can a person take in one day or does it have to be both, this would be regarding the score system. Is it a combined score for both days or seperated?
Do you guys mind if there is a newbie there that may ask a ton of ?'s or would I be too much a pain in the butt?
Thanks

Registration happens as you show up - just be early. Range is about 6 or 10 miles due east of Nokomis, SK ... Kodiak might be able to send you a map if you PM him. You can shoot either day or both. Each day has an aggregate score plus the two are rolled together for another aggregate. Newbs welcome (we were all newbies at one time and in varying phases of it now).

The OP has some info on other hotels and accommodation options, but you'll need to bring your lunch & something to drink. Restaurants are sparse in Nokomis and some close for the long weekend.
