p226, for the prices you quote I could have one hell of a pistol built on a Norinco. Springer, or Para frame. Although my 1911s do not look like customs they were put together to my specs and I like the way they handle. I have about $800 (US) in each of these two. Regards, Richard :D

You can put equivalent dollars into a less expensive 1911 and have something truly custom. But it's often tougher to sell such a gun and rarely do you get you money back on the custom work. Dumping big money into a Norinco is polishing a turd IMHO. You'll take a bath if you decide to sell.

On a trip to the U.S. last year where a friend and I examined a variety of 1911 pistols we looked at all the ones you mentioned. He bought a Les Baer and if I were as deeply into handgunning as he is I would too. I decided my SW1911 was sufficent for my 1911 needs.

You can't go wrong with any of the guns listed. None will do anymore than a Para SSP will at 1/3 the cost but it certainly will be a high end custom gun and that is what you want.

Customizing a Norinco or Para frame makes a lot of sense as well BUT it is like building a hot rod. You may like it but nobody will pay you the money that you have in it if you ever want to sell it.

Having a gun that is guaranteed to shoot groups of less than 1" at 50 yards is great if you can hold steady enough to achieve that kind of accuracy. From my experience most shooters can't (I am one of them) so having a gun that is capable of that kind of accuracy won't do me much good. That said if I can shoot, from a rest groups of less than an 1" at 15 yards with my Para then I am good to go IDPA target A zone is 8" in diameter.

Take Care

Bob

I have the Premier II and I just ordered a Talon II. I think for the money you can't go wrong with the Les Baer Premier II! When I ordered mine - stainless was not an option but it is a good choice for the little extra they charge.

I can't comment on the Talon other then to say it is being built by guys who used to work for Wilson and that they have continually received glowing reviews. The Premier II, I know for a fact is a gorgeous gun!

If I was looking to buy a big $$$$ 1911, I'd take an Ed Brown over any of the three guns you listed.

please elaborate it on,IMHO,I didn't see Ed Brown has better reputation than other 3 gunmakers.

no manufacturer can guarantee 1" at 50yards, LesBaer could do 1.5" at 50yards but you have to pay extra $295,others only guarantee 1" at 25 yards. Having said that, buying a powerful sport car with 500 HP doesn't mean we have to drive at 300+ km/h. Get to the point, I never think about I can shoot even 1" at 15 yards. But sometimes,we need something to brag or make ourselves happy;)

Ed Brown has as good a reputation as anybody else in the 1911 world. They make all of their parts in house, which gives them complete control over component quality (unlike, say, Nighthawk Customs, which sources most of its parts from outside suppliers). Cosmetically, they seem to be the nicest of the bunch, although that's a personal preference.

P226 have you ever checked out any of Joe Dlasks custom 1911's. Dlask Arms Corp. makes some nice firearms and he is Canadian. I believevthey are mostly made from scratch in his shop in Delta. I have mentioned it before but some of Gunner Christensons Armco 1911's are truelly amazing.
