Finally caved and bought an Anschutz

So after months of drooling over these fine rifles, about 3 weeks ago i entered into discussions with the local retailer, Nordic Marksman. Brad was excellent to deal with. I began considering a benchrest model, but frequently i like off-hand shots, and also am fond of germanic stocks. Initially, he suggested I try the 64MPR , which kind of does everthing. But after a week of discussions with them, and a lot of research on the 54/64 actions, i bit down even harder on the bullet and sprung for a gorgeous (to my simple eyes) 1710. Yes a 54 action. Now the foreend of this thing is narrow for bags, but ill give it a try anyway. People will laugh me off the stage for blowing this kind of money on a 22. And its really outside of my budget, but its also a model i can hand down to my grandkids when that time comes. Plus, these things are lasers-- even out to 100. The bolt cycles like glass (it feels and sounds exactly like my other german rifles - Cant wait to fire off some shots.
Now -- for all you rimfire guys-- lay on me your best recommendations on ammo -- I know (contrary to what i thought) that subsonic is more accurate. I have always run CCI Mini-mags in my rimfire pistol, since it needed some kick to cycle the action. I would have thought that would be also great in a rifle for accuracy, but i am told otherwise. I also read on the Annie website that hypervelocity stuff can shorten the barrel life because of the pressures.
Ammo aside, i have some talleys coming in for mounting, and a lightweight conquest with a mildot reticle. once mounted and sighted in, i will do my best to start working on tighter groups

Congratulations. That is an excellent rifle, and your stock has nice wood. Just last week I also bought a 1710, the heavy barrel D HB model. For best results with the Anschutz use standard velocity (not high velocity) match ammo such as Lapua/SK, RWS, or Eley. CCI may require you to work the bolt harder they are often not a good fit in the match chamber.
 
Start out with some SK standard plus.Its one ammo that works well in everything without breaking the bank.Nordic should have it that's where I purchased mine.Hirsch Precision also carries it.Congrats ,one day I'll get mine as well.For me it will be the heavy barrel DB,just need to save a few more nickles!!
 
Congrats on your gorgeous new rifle. I have a couple of Annie's myself and really like them.
PLEASE feed yours proper match grade ammo ( SK/Lapua, Eley, RWS etc.) Lapua center X does real well in both my 64 and my 54 Annie's. SK standard plus is cheaper and gives good results too. You can get Lapua/ SK ammo at Nordic Marksman.

One of my friends bought one years ago but he was a master marksman. The problem with guys and guns like that is that you almost HAVE to shoot the good stuff in them; and he had to fight other snipers tooth and nail to secure stocks of match ammo. He shot Lapua in his, if I remember correctly...

It's a little too serious and too pricey for a piker like me though...
 
Beautiful rifle, congrats! I'm a Marlin-budget-level guy contemplating a CZ and IT feels like a hefty investment for a 22. I do head over to the NM website almost weekly though...then go buy a lottery ticket. :)

I'm a marlin budget guy too, I was just lucky to have sold several guns and scopes in recent months and I also saved a bunch. I also have a CZ 455 Canadian on its way. That one was a lot less expensive, but it's a bit rare and it was a good deal. I will do a side by side comparison when it arrives.
 
Call Targetshooting products and have them send you a brick of several types of ammo any where from $55 range and up. Then when you find what it likes, but a case or two of the same lot of what you bought, then you will have the right ammo for a long time. Eley works a lot with anschutz so much of what eley makes works well in them, but then again so does the german stuff. a guy in our club has found that rem subsonics work well in his, super well actually.

If you really want to test it you do have to spring for the $$$$ stuff which will cost you $20 a box, not brick
