So....after a 15 month wait...yes...15 months, I got my PAL. Why? I dont know, I called many times to get the same answer "Everything on your application looks great sir, I don't see any issues, unfortunately all I can tell you is to keep waiting." I have no criminal record, I offered to do interviews or line up dates for interviews, they told me it wouldn't be necessary for a non restricted. I know people who sent thier application in the same province AFTER I did, and got thiers back within the regular 2 month slot, BEFORE I GOT MINE. Needless to say, was furious lol.

Anyhow rant over about that. So first purchase, at a good price from Northern Elite Firearms ( currently on sale slightly) I went with the Ruger AR-556. Having excellent reviews, which is to be expected from this platform from Ruger. Of course, like anything i touch, i need more stuff. What rails, forgrips, bipods, gasblock and anything else that tickles your fancy are you guys using? Mostly this is just a fun gun for myself and the wife (figured the .223/5.56 would be more forgiving for her, likely be going to a m14/m305 or an SKS next).

Also, any thing that anyone with this AR run into for problems, suggestions you may have ect are all welcome...

welcome to the club. The first thing I always replace on any AR is the trigger. I'm not a fan of the 4-5lb single stage milspec triggers. It makes ALL the difference for me to have a light two stage.

Lol, its funny you guys mentioned it. For whatever reason it was undefined for restriction. Everything went through fine , then i literally just got an email saying i dont have the required RPAL, they have since put a classification on it, as i guess this has happened a few times. I thought myself that it was odd, but here we are lol. /fail. Off to a new selection :-( thought i missed a law change in the time i gave up keeping up with everything in the 15 month wait lol

No such thing as RPAL, it's just a common abbreviation we use for sake of simplicity. In all cases proper name of this license is simply "PAL" and then it could have "non-restricted", "restricted" and some prohibs attached to it. So one can buy restricted with just PAL, just need to have a proper condition on it and I don't know a way to find if PAL has "restricted" on it except running PAL number through the system.

I ordered from a store so they wouldve ran the number im assuming. I was parphrasing saying RPAL, they just said i dont have the required condition as that firearm is classed as restricted

I actually wanna say it has to do with the digits after the . that will denote classification allowance for PAL. Im trying to find it but im sure there was a thread on here about it somewhere.

Regardless, time to reselect, and also book my Restricted course lol. This thread can prolly be closed.

12345678.0001. First PAL. 12345678.0002. Renewed. 12345678.0003. Renewed again.
Restricted and Prohibited authorizations are on the back.

The numbers after the decimal at the end of your PAL number are only a count of how many PALs you have been issued. It has nothing to do with endorsements.

Tiriaq, can sadly feel free to remove this thread, no 556 for this guy this time. May have to just go with 2 seperate guns in this style. Unless things have changed which nothing i have found is saying so(not for lack of trying from the RCMP) SKS is still NR, which was gonna be my next purchase anyway. Just gotta find something smaller for the wife, or she'll never wanna come shooting again if i give her that 7.62 off the hop lol

This is correct. I'm on .0003, and I've never actually renewed my license.

.0001 was my original Non-restricted PAL. .0002 was when I got my Restricted PAL. .0003 was when they attached the special conditions, and re-issued my PAL (After submitting my range info to the CFO :jerkit:)

Yeah thats right, after the first 7 months of waiting i had completely dropped off on everything, and think its been 10 months before this that ive even logged onto here. Wife sent me pictures of my card as im up in the arctic circle(legit no bs lol), so i havent even physically looked at it, spent 2 days checking out guns, sent in purchase application ect. Only thing i really looked at, was my number and expiry date haha. The excitement after waiting so long took over hard. I had nearly completely forgot that anything under x barrel length ect is restricted, so after looking at other more pricey Non-restricted tac style rifles, i over looked that part when there wasnt a restriction classification listed in the description for it on NEF /sad

Ar-15s are exempt from this logic. Because... Reasons.
