This summer my buddy just went on and on about how much more effective .17s are on gophers, so I folded and bought one.

Wanted something handy and found out that a shorter barrel gives up very little velocity and decided on a short barrelled Savage. Added some parts I had on the stock, new muzzle brake that deflects the noise forward.

Cannot say enough about the accuracy.

Hold over is nothing compared to my old .22s.

Used the .17 out past 100 yards with ease, and the .22 Ruger for shorter distances, love my rimfire combo. :)

Have bunch of very graphic gopher hits, but do not want to cause any grief by posting them.

Pics from today shooting with a buddy. :)

As I did, my other buddy just bought a .17 Savage as well, no way you can compete with a .22 rimfire whie pesting. :)

CRACKssssssssssSSP :)

Yeah, does a number on them alright. Probably the best pest/caliber-for-them combo out there. Hits like the hammer of THOR on those little rats. :) As for the photos~post away!

Once you use one you won't go back. See gopher kill gopher. Out a couple weeks ago and shot a few hundred in a couple of hours between my brother and me. Brother got a badger as well. One shot and done.

I recently picked up a .17HMR gopher slayer also.

Was not sure about all the hype and just how much of an improvement on my .22's and .22 Mag it would really be. I have to say I am totally impressed with the ballistics and what it does to gophers. Makes my other rimfires seem anemic by comparison.

Picked one up off it's mound at 118 meters and watched it through the scope going backwards as it folded in half yesterday. Ranged it to be sure.

Not bragging because it wasn't me on the trigger...but my nephew has quite literally plucked gophers off the side of a hill at almost 2X that distance with my 17HMR. I've seen it countless times. Gun is a Marlin 917 with a Rifle Basix trigger. 17HMR is a remarkable caliber for gophers, and about 100x easier to use than 22 if there is any distance involved. I'm a very stubborn 22LR/gopher shooter though. :) Something about the dull "thup" sound of a 40gr bullet folding those little S-O-Bs... =super satisfying. :)

The. 17s are far more humane. Not one gopher that was hit made it underground unlike. 22 rimfires. Shot placement is far more critical with. 22 rimfires, as lots can happen on the way to the target. Not saying you can be sloppy with a .17 just it does a better job.
