I finally got the two young fellas out for a good hunt without too many screwups (two uturns back to house to get my duck coat and then again for my rope).
Got out just as birds were leaving to feed and picked up a mallard and a goose early. After all the birds left, I took down a couple of high flying snipe that would land in the appropriate areas. A GWT fell a little later and then a couple of mallards decoyed nicely and I was able to take down an immature drake. Another GWT and a gaddie a few minutes later and then just as dusk was coming the night ended all at once. A flock of 4 gaddies were coming in wings set. I chose the lead bird and stood to fire. Just as I pulled the trigger the flock bunched and three birds came down stone dead. Picked up and back at the truck before legal was out and watched in awe as thousands of birds swirled in for the night.
Poacher did well but actually acted insulted when sent to fetch the snipe.
