finally got around to putting some glass on my Ruger Scout.

i picked this up when they first hit the canadian market and love it.
but ive noticed that my eyes are not what they where so i caved in last week and went and put some glass on the scout.
also wanted to try this whole forward eye relief craze.

must say, so far im really liking it!

i went with the Leupold Scout Scope.
mostly because of the lifetime warranty.
and its hard to beat the quality for the price.

im very happy with it.
its strange transitioning from the traditional scope to the relaxed eye relief forward mounted glass.
but once you tried it its really kinda neat.
can keep both eyes open, you can track stuff better.

all in all im very happy with the purchase.
put the optic on with some quick release mounts so i can go back to the iron should the need arise.
also i had a bunch of side mount pic rails that i had picked up for my AR's so i snuck one in, i was gonna put one of my mini red dots on there for fun and try it out at the range tomorow to see if i like it.

for your viewing pleasure.

oh ya, thats right im cheap!

here is the first target.

the shots arcing in from the top left are the first couple shots so you can see me zeroing in.

shot..... shot, shot, shot shot shot
you get the picture.

happy with the results!
temp was -32 and i was cold and free standing, i sure if i had used a rest and it wasnt so bloody cold i could have pulled them in tighter but those are kill shots at 100 yards.

P&D has them on their list.
i actually got mine from Roger at Shooters Choice just outside of calgary.
he's a internet only webpage seller, but is by far the best guy to deal with.
he is my go to guy.
i just email him what i want and he emails me back when price and how long.

the Leupold Scout scope was same price as everywhere else and it was in my mailbox 3 days after i emailed him asking about it.

Nice rig, nice shooting... Sighting in your rifle at -32 C is the very definition of a Canadian GunNut.;)

So how do you find the eye relief on that Leupold? Their site lists it at 9.3 inches and I'm considering one, but I wouldn't want much more
then 9.3 inches.

Initially I was worried and thought I would need to get a scout scope that had more magnification or was variable like a 2-4 which I think the Burris scout one is.
But now that I have this one and it's on and I've used it a couple times I'm really liking it!

I never measured how far away I have it, I just slapped it on and it's good.
I am considering getting lower rings but I'm on the fence about it.
I'm running medium ones currently and lows would get it right down on top of the barrel.
But it seems to just perfect for looking through right now.
I'll probably just leave it.

im thinking that if i go to the low ones that the back iron site will block it.

ill probably pick some up to have a look, never hurts to have extra rings laying around.

Wayupnorth, I am coming in late to your conversation but appreciating your comments about Leupold. Could you advise what the proper name for that scope is and where it is best obtained. I am looking to put a Scout type setup on an 8mm K98 Mauser which will fit a bracket adapted for the rifle. I am sure familiar with the quality of the optic, however, never experienced a high eye relief scope and have some reservations. The base installed on the rifle will allow me to see through and use iron sights as well. These sights very accurate, however, old eyes coming in to play and I am hoping this Scout type setup might "fill the bill"

hey i tell ya i shot this gun with irons as long as i could, but like you my old eyes just are not doing their job so i had to go get some glass on the gun, haha!

i see your in Ontario so i cant help ya with where to get the scope over there, but i know P&D in Edmonton can get them and ship it to ya and so can anyone that deals with Leupold really.

the full name for the scope is Leupold FX-II Scout IER 2.5x28mm and can be found here on the Leupold Web Page.

i have never shot the long eye relief before this and its odd but neat and once you start to use it its really neat, you can keep both eyes open and watch the entire field while shooting.
