Its been 2.5 weeks and finally got to range.

Very cold with a breeze and had to snowshoe in but I popped off about 40 rounds. The snow at the range was up to the rim of the garbage cans.

The front sights are off a bit had to get 11 clicks to the left to get on black and the blade of the sights is uneven but it did well with some 30 year old surplus ammo and a bit of 150 grain 308 ammo.

It functioned and cycled well, good thing someone else was at the range that has one because I was too ginger releasing the cocking handle I had no issues.

Very cold lots of snow but definately a good day. Come summer a trip to range might be an all day thing with 3-4 really fun things to shoot now!

What Range did you go to? I have been tempted to go out but the idea of snowshoeing to the range lugging a rifle or 2 and ammo does not sound like fun. lol

Welcome to the club....they are a nice rifle......If your front sight is leaning to the right it and you are going to use iron sights ..the barrel needs indexing (tightened onto the receiver a bit) If you plan on putting a scope on it dont worry about it... good news is it is easy to do ,,,,bad news you need a special block to clamp barrel into the vice .
I just did mine at one of Hungrys m-14 clinics....

First we removed flash eliminator and entire gas system then clamped barrel and receiver in a vise using special barrel clamp

this is a pic of how the wrench is used to tighten the receiver onto the barrel ....hopefully you can attend one of Hungrys clinics if not a gunsmith locally may be the best idea

Yeah I have a scope mount so I'll do what I can with adjusting the front blade and zero it to 100 meters and use the scope for out further.

The range is the Bigboot on PEI I put everything I needed in a shoulder bag and carried my hard case in. Not too bad but a soft case with a sling is on my Xmas list for next year.

Mine had to also be zeroed quite a bit out of the box , but what i read said it was important to adjust your front sight to the center of the bore as best you can first before adjusting for windage .

My micrometer says im about 0.06" in from the right of the dovetail and i have 1 click left on windage and is dead accurate wiith that for now even out to 250 yards , however where our range is theres always usually a cross breeze . 11 clicks seemes excessive for sure though .

My height zero though was way out of wack thanks to a lose index screw so im trying to get that rezerod.

Fun riffles though , keep at er .

also try to get a hold of a lead sled or something like that while making your intial adjustments , it helped me quickly realize in the beginning how tough it is for a first timer to shoot these lol

Ya...It made aloud ping as was it tightened and a little wisp of smoke come out...I have never seen anything like that before..letting the genie out of the bottle...lol

Put the garand rear sights on last week so now I am good to go...my local gunsmith quoted me a good price for the chop job..I gotta wait awhile though as he is busy
