Buddy wanted to check if his scope had been bumped off zero, so we went to the 25Yd. range. I took the 1918 MkIII, had been wanting to try it, but never got around to it until today. Had round nose bullets loaded, so feeding was an issue. Had one MkVII military cartridge, it fed well. Aperture sight right down, 5 shots to adjust windage. Is that trigger ever SMMOOOTH! Then fired a 4 shot group. I know you guys can shoot better than this @100Yds, but I am happier than a pig in sh*t. Thanks Wheaty! P.S. My socks are clean.

You are now a member of the Ancient Order of Ross Rifle Marksmen Who Still Have All Their Fingers.

Congratulations!

Yeah, that trigger is REALLY something. I have not come across a commercial OR military trigger to match it.

A few more rounds to really get used to the rifle and that group (which is darned good for starts) will shrink like it had Prep-H on it!

Glad to see another Ross back on the range.

WHAT? No smoking crater, your head still on your shoulders, all your fingers attached, and a silly smile on your face? You have disappointed all those people who believe in the "Myth of the Exploding Ross Rifle."

It is interesting just how many people, after they have finally shot a properly set up Ross rifle, will almost instantly change their opinion of the Ross. The smooth action, accuracy, and uniqueness of the Ross is something that a person has to experience for themselves.

A very nice group. Reloads should shrink it quite a bit. It is best to neck size your cases only to get maximum accuracy from them. LEE makes a nice three die set with the full length sizer, seater and a neck sizer die for about $45 and they work great.

You can pull he trigger on a Ross, then make a last minute check on the sight/target relationship and adjust. Best rifle ever made. My 1916 Mk.III is my pride and joy.

My Ross m-10 is going to put forth some death when I get done the upcoming well.
Dad has fabb'd up up some 'yote medicine from Pet Load's by Waters.
42 gr ( if I recall correctly) of 3031 behind steel core FMJ's removed from Czech SKS ammo, real flat and quite quiet. No recoil to speak of either.
OP ; Beautiful rifle BTW

Thanks for the kind words eveyone. I never had any fear about shooting the MkIII. On the other hand, what are your thoughts on shooting the MkII no-star. When I got it the barrel was loose in the action. That "quick change" thread might not have been the best idea. I have heard that some of the early Ross had tight bores and were not recommended for MkVIII ammunition. Maybe best load down some cartridges?
