Finding a S&W M&P 22.LR in Canada?

Hey everyone.
I'm just passed my RPAL test today and are now starting to shop around for my first gun. (been trying to resist doing this up until I at least challenge and passed the test lol)

I've done some research, read a few reviews on different models, and have found that I'm very interested in getting an S&W M&P 22.LR for my first gun. I like that it's a .22LR (cheap ammo), it seems to be very reliable without the typical feeding/ejecting issues like a lot of .22 pistol have. And it's stylish, I personally love the way it looks and I know for sure that it fits my grip well because I used to own an airsoft version of the M&P 40 (same body) and it was comfortable.

My biggest issue is mainly FINDING Canadian dealers (preferably eastcoast) in the first place. Whenever I Google "Where to buy firearms in Canada" I get results that treat me like a criminal for wanting a gun. lol It's like Canadian firearm business are some shady underground market.

Thanks for reading.

Not in Canada, it says "The $25.00 shipping to Canada, GST, $100.00 importation, and shipping to your place of residence will be collected upon final transfer."

Couldn't I import it myself for cheaper than that? And wouldn't it then have the 12 round capacity mags instead of 10? :/

Not sure if you could do it cheaper or not but I doubt it would be very easy. And handguns are limited to 10 I believe regardless of calibre.

I know, which is why I'm asking about the imported version being from a US market with bigger mag limits to begin with. (US version of the M&P 22 is 12 rounds)
So, if it's from the US market wouldn't it also have the 12 round mag making it illegal? :/

Welcome and congrats on receiving your license.

From what I've seen retailers in the States offer both 10 or 12 so just make sure you order the 10.

And yes it's a fun gun to shoot. Mine has cycled a bunch of different ammos and has only had one failure to fire; a welll-struck dud round of Remmington golden.

Happy shopping.

Sorry. I misunderstood. I believe irunguns pins the mags to be Canadian legal for you as part if the import process.

What's the price come to with the fees included? I doubt you could import a gun any cheaper, so if its reasonable, buy it. I haven't seen one in Canada for six months or so.

WRH.....if you are in Windsor Ontario ....General gun had five in stock back in October 2012. I bought one for the girlfriend the other four were sold within a day.

We have about 16 left in stock. They have 12 round mags pinned to 10 rounds so they are Canadian compliant.

I've found that, in regards to something that costs this little to start with, buying from IRUNGUNS doesn't really make any sense. After paying the import fees and shipping you'll be into this gun for close to $600 + taxes, which is about 20% more that you would pay for it buying it in Canada... Not to take anything away from IRUNGUNS, the service that they offer is great and on high ticket items you can get them for the same as buying them in Canada or even save some money in some cases, it's just the low price stuff that you will end up paying more for.

If you can wait and perhaps get something else first then you will save a bunch of money in the long run.

On the other hand, if you have the money and want the M&P 22 NOW, you don't really have much of a choice because none of the Canadian retailers have them.

I will say that the M&P 22 is an extreamly nice gun, in fact, mine is my favourite hand gun that I own to shoot.

Something else to keep in mind though, if you do buy an M&P 22, you will only have one mag for it. You think the guns are hard to find, wait till you decide you want a spare mag. You better have a gold bar to trade per mag.

Yeah, my cousin bought one of the five. I didn't have my RPAL at that point, or I would have snatched one up.

Is importing guns to Canada the same as any other items? Like, just pay duty and whatnot? Or is there also "gun fees" when importing any firearms?
And can you drive down and physically buy a gun in a storefront in the US, get a transport license from there to home, and drive it across the border? My guess is "no" but I'll ask anyway. lol

The problem isnt importing the gun to Canada, the problem is exporting the gun from the US. Have a read of the 20,000 threads that are already posted on this site about the exact same thing. The only cost effective way to do it is thru an exporter like IRUNGUNS.

Well you saying that pretty much sums up the other reviews I've been reading on it also, seems to be one of the best .22 pistols out there. (besides the target and competitive .22 pistol models, but I want something that looks more modern also) So I think I'm willing to pay a little extra to have it much sooner, seems worth it to me. haha

Is it possible to have someone mod the existing 12round mags for you to make it Canadian legal? Someone certified to do so or something? As I'm assuming it's more so the 10 round versions that are the most rare, right?

My friend… since the tragic events down south all the manufacturers have increased prices on a number of products… The S&W M&P-22 had a price increase of 67.00 from last year. This hasn’t been seen in Canada as Canadian Retailers haven’t received their product yet, that said neither have we... These pistols like most of our stock is acquired by the relationships we have built over the years, not because the flood gates have opened…. Rifles used to come with 2 or 3 mags…. Now you only get one, pistols are no different…. AK47’s went up 100% from last year... double the cost….

As of April 1, 2013 Ammunition has gone up an average of 10% across the board, Federal, Remmington, they all did it.… That is why there is no ammunition in the US…. Think about it….. If you’re stocking millions and millions of rounds and you know that there is a nationwide price increase April 1…. Wouldn’t you sit on it for a couple months….. Absolutely….

We will always do our best to offer great deals and exeptional service..... Stay tuned.... I think everyone may be pleasantly surprised....

Best Regards,

Jason

I ordered one of these from Jason at irunguns and can't wait to get it, even if there is a bit of a premium on it. At least when I called Jason he answered the phone, and was great to deal with a refreshing experience when contrasted against some of the retailers I have dealt with here in my area. I asked about these guns and also about Glock 17 mags at a local store and was laughed at by the counter staff....nice response, which resulted in me voting with my wallet and casting my vote with irunguns.
