A double gun, a pointing dog, and grouse in the aspens. A match made in heaven! I have used doubles exclusively for upland birds for many years. Taking two forest grouse in the air from a simultaneous flush is a wonderful achievement, congratulations!
I have a 12ga side by side. Haven't bagged a double, yet. That must be a very nice feeling to have accomplished that feat. I have done it shooting clays alot. Shooting clays is good practice however not the same as bird hunting. Well done.
I still haven't got into the OU game, desperately want to get one tho. I did get a double with my 870 this weekend, only two shots fired...I was pretty happy with that!
Rickyy, I mainly hunt west of Ottawa in WMU 63. I have family with land out that way. I shot these up at our hunt camp South of Mattawa in WMU 48. 5 flushed @ the same time. I got lucky!
I use a Stevens 311 in 16 Gauge as often as anything else. Not really a "fine" double, but a solid firearm in my opinion. I haven't shot a double on grouse with it yet, but I have doubled on a Mallard/Black earlier this season.
Indeed - I used to shoot a SxS 12 gauge for most upland game... and waterfowl as well... but have since switched to 28 gauge. I've got a CZ SxS and a Beretta O/U. I can't remember getting a double on grouse, but have done so with huns and quail
