There has been no stocking of Pheasants this year. According to the two volunteer Elgin Stewartship Council chaps who I talked with this morning, the MNR has removed its financial and management support due to budget cuts.
Apparently the $5000 that had been previously budgeted is no longer available. No other user group - RASC star gazers, OFSC snowmobile access, hiking, cross country skiing, OFO bird folks, Youth Hunting Mentorship Program, etc, - will have no changes to their access. Only hunters of upland game are currently affected by these budget cuts.
There is no signage or notices posted that reflect this divergence from the Management Plan that was implemented by the MNR - which states that there will be a minimum of 200 Ring Neck Pheasants released each year. An arbitrary decision taken by some bureaucrat.
Time to write a letter to my MPP, I guess.
