So what do you guise use to finish your laminate stocks. I have used automotive clear coat and Varathane Wood Finish before.
Obviously the clear coat is super glossy, which has its purpose. The Varathane is not as glossy.
I should be getting my stock for my 7mmRM from SharpShooterSupply here any day and I don't want an extreme gloss as I will be using it for some hunting. It is my long range deer gun. That is what I built it for anyways. I am getting this stock in black/black/orange (trying a bit of color). It will have the cheek piece and butt hook.

Like I said I want it to look nice and feel smooth, but not over glossy. I like the finish on Remington factory laminate stocks, I wonder if anyone knows what they use?

I used automotive clear on a laminate stock, let it dry hard, then some fine steel wool to knock off the gloss, worked out really good.

I cannot remember who finished my stock and I hope this gentleman steps forward he if reads this. He is a Canadian painter/stock finisher and he did an excellent job of finishing my A5L Laminate stock. The price was very reasonable and the turn around very quick.

I wanted a clear coat matte finish and the stock turned out great. I can take some pictures if you want?

I found the pictures:

I used Birchwood Casey on my grey laminate from Boyds. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that it doesn't distort the color, so I tried it, and I like it. I was worried it might look yellow, but it didn't.
