I just got into rifles this year along with 2 of my 3 sons. I first picked up a Ruger 10/22 for my 10 year old with a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope. Both of them love shooting it, but my youngest who just tuned 7 wanted one of his own, based on advice from my local gun shop, I picked up a Henry Mini-bolt (the Ruger was too big for my youngest). He loves it, but wanted a scope on it like his older brother (If you have a few children - you will know what I mean! :) ) So, I order a scope mount from SIR and picked up a Bushnell 3-9 x40 (again - just like his older brother's). After getting my local gunsmith to install the mount (it requires 2 holes to be drilled and tapped) and scope with a pair of low weaver type scope rings we took it out. Unfortunately because of the low ring on the scope, it left little room for him to pull back on the cocking knob (I had no problem reaching in with 2 fingers to pull it back, but he needs to use his whole hand), so back to the drawing board. I had a spare set of medium TPS tactical rings from my M14S (I was switching mounts from a SEI weaver mount to a SEI picatinny mount ). Mounted the new rings, took it out to the range. It only took 3 shots to zero in the scope. All in all, he is very impressed with this new rifle - looks like his fathers Tikka, so like all little boys that is just the greatest!

Here are some pics from the weekend - Enjoy!!

Very nice!!
It would sure suck if it fell over the edge........................

Huntsman,
I was trying to photograph the rifle in what little sunlight we had on Saturday, and I did managed to keep it from falling off :) or I would have had one sad 7year old :(

Thanks

Congradulations and thank you for introducing two more littleuns to our sport. You have partners for life!

Thanks Pharaoh2, I am looking forward to taking them deer hunting with me when they turn 12 (or is it 14?). I get to spend a few nights a week with them (which my wife loves the quiet time :) ) which I really enjoy!

I'll bet he's the coolest 7 yr old for miles around, good going!

Thanks guys!
He shot the rifle quite a few times before I got the scope mounted (he got to using the great iron sights the rifle has!) and even brought his first target to school for show and tell (yup you heard me right - with no issues or letters from the school or parents - go figure) it was my wifes idea :D - he was pretty excited about it - grinning ear to ear

Nicely done. I was gonna suggest getting the gunsmith to braze a small bar horizontally across the back of the bolt so he can use his hand to #### the rifle. I did that for James on his Henry and it worked great. I dont have a pic tho.

Good job.

AWESOME ... lucky wee lad ... ;)
