Is it really worth it to pay another 200 dollars for another course?

I just hear stories that it's easier to acquire a pal and that getting an rpal means a longer wait time and them grilling your references. But I really don't want to sit in a classroom for another 10 hours just to not get anything out of it.

I personally have an interest in 1851 Colts and other pistols from that era. But I'm afraid in the future they'll make more guns restricted or maybe even make whatever gun i decided to purchase illegal.

What should I do?

My son got his PAL first then decided to go for RPAL a year later. Did the RPAL course and waited all over gain. Twice the paperwork, paid the fees twice and the second time around waited much more than the first time. He wished he had done the one extra day and got his RPAL in the beginning.

Go for it.

Meh at best, the actual class is easy and sometimes are finished by noon, but the paperwork+wait time isn't very fun right at the moment. I got my RPAL last year in 2.5 months with frequent phone calls to the CFO and having my references call them, but my friend took the leisure route and waited about a year. Really just depends on what your preferences are.

I would recomment getting the RPAL now. There is a lot of overlap in content with the PAL course.

It's better to have it and not need then to need it and not have it.

Most of the instructors will only charge a little more if you book them at the same time. I did my Pal and Rpal together for $230. If you just did it then talk to your instructor.

what he said .....^^^ go get it

If you can afford it (both money and time wise) I say get your RPAL! Of course, the choice is entirely yours but the more RPAL holders, the better for the firearms community. If you are worried about future re-classifications, simply limit the number of restricted firearms to a dollar amount that you are comfortable with. We only live once and if you have an interest in C&B pistols then by all means indulge... Also, the more numerous we are (RPAL holders) the less prompt Government will be to restrict our activities further, I hope. I truly believe that there is power in numbers. In any case, enjoy your new passion!
