After waiting months on end for parts, finally got to finish my lightweight hunter this month, and took her out for a spin.
Powder node is exactly where my heavy target build is at, so 38.8/38.9gn of H4350 makes a good job of shooting 139 OTM ammo.

My SHV 30oz scope is temporary, as I have a 20.5oz NXS compact 2.5-10x42 Mil-R on backorder with Hirsch precision.
Once the new scope in, it should bring weight down to 8lbs 12oz.
About 5-6oz heavier than I was aiming for, but I really wanted a mini chassis in my manners stock for a solid foundation which weighted things down a bit.

Today was a preliminary powder tune test at 100M, but so far so good, my 38.8gn load with 20 thou jump off the jam seems promising.
Especially considering that the 38.6 and 39.0 are also sub 1/2 moa, have very little velocity increments between each other, and have the same POI.
Will do one last test with 38.8gn involving 5 shot groups at 200M, and if it passes my 1/2-5/8 moa objective testing is done and over with.
I won't get into bullet depth seating tune, as this is a hunter and 1/2-5/8 moa was the objective off the start, I won't burn components and barrel up doing some tuning beyond the objective.
iBi went tight neck chamber once again, requiring me to turn necks or having sub optimal accuracy.

At 38.8gn of H4350, CCI 450, and 139 OTM, my velocity sits at 2630FPS, which I find respectable for a 22'' barrel.
In my ballistic app, it gives me confidence to hunt coyotes with some nice energy down range.
My spot for coyotes goes to 600M, which I have more than enough steam to cover.

Right now, I will start training in sitting/kneeling positions for offhand shooting and get this rifle off the bench.
This may be off topic, but if someone has a good article to share on solid sitting positions I would like to get some reading done (I did start searching and reading some on my own too).

Here are a few pics, thanks for reading!

Nice unit. What caliber? I assume a flavor of 6.5mm given the bullet and powder choice.

I built one along the same lines a couple years ago. I ended up going with a Leupold vx3 4.5-14x40 with 30mm tube and CDS and the windplex reticle. It's a nice quality scope (not quite the same as the NXS) that gave me elevation adjustability and easy hash marks for wind holdover for the long shots. Scope came in at 13 oz. Total rifle with scope mounted is 8lb 1oz.

Oops forgot to mention build specs!

Bighorn Origin action
Manners MCS-T with gen 2 mini chassis
Triggertech diamond set at heaviest
iBi 6.5x47 Lapua, 8T, 5R, 22’’ target crown, 0.920’’ straight profile
ARC x-low M10 rings in 30mm

Going with a Leupold I would end up at 8lbs 5oz, this would be tempting!
In the sub 9lbs range it should stay manageable, time will tell!

Using cheater parts…

Bighorn origin is savage barrel prefit, so a headspace gauge, barrel nut and barrel vice takes care of this.
Manners mini chassis doesn’t technically require bedding.

I must say, you must be a very strong, young fellow, if you consider 8 pounds, 12 ounces to be a "lightweight" rifle. I presume that is without cartridges in that magazine, nor a sling installed?? I think that is up similar to P14 or M1917 - so WWI battle rifles?? But looks cool - I hope it shoots well!!!

For sure it has compromises weight wise. Compared to my 15+ lbs target builds, sure feels light!
But have a solid 600M platform in return for its « low » weight.
And yes, I work construction and am young and strong!

I am looking for solid sitting positions though.
It is too heavy to offhand shoot it properly.
Sitting covers most hunting terrains, and once bone structure gets in there I don’t see 8 3/4 like a problem. My service rifle AR was heavier than that and managed nice groups kneeling at a distance.

I'm not a bolt action / magazine guy as far as hunting rifles go, and I am not enamored with synthetic stocks either, butI sure can appreciate a well put together rifle, and I really like that one, well done!
Nice to see a rifle with nice lines not ruined by a brake, as well, but that is jut my opinion, I know lots of guys who love them!:p

I love my braked rifles, in my opinion there’s a time and place for them and this wasn’t it.
I will shoot this rifle unplugged in hunting scenarios, and wish to keep hearing damage to a minimum fully knowing I’ll still have some.

Besides, 6.5x47Lapua is the slowest of the 3 main 6.5s (260rem, 6.5cm and 6.5x47), recoil as-is is a gentle push, nothing crazy and far from any 308 I have ever shot unbraked.
