Hey guys I started work on refinishing my Russian sks stock about 3 weeks ago and its done and the rifles back together. I got some pics of what the gun looked like befor and after for you to see. I used a nice red stain on the stock then a product called liquid plastic that is made to protect wood and give it a nice shine. I think it looks way beter then it use to.

These two pics are befor I started removing the finish off the stock

Looks great. You've inspired me to start mine...just got my unissued in the mail on Friday. I'm going for a more tactical look though. I have bed liner spray that will be the base coat then I am spraying it olive green and I'm going to try duplicating the look of webbing with a brush and various left over colored paints I have. Once done I will seal the whole thing with a poly urethane spray. Just trying to decide if I should camo the metal parts or leave blued. Gotta love these russkie sks's they are so much fun customizing and great value too.

Heres what I did to the stock if any of you guys want to know. I striped the stock with furnisher striper and a paint scraper took little over an hour and a half. Then sanded the stock with 60 grit all the way till 320 grit. After that I got some stain I used minwax (Sedona red) put two coats of that on and let it dry for around 3 days. Got that stain at home depot if your looking for it. After drying I used a product called (liquid plastic) its pretty well just a clear urethane for finishing wood. Put two coats of that on , sanding in between with 00 steelwool. After drying I put on some bees wax for a little beter shine

Nice Job! Its nice to see more people become addicted to these magnificent pieces of History. What can I say, I love these rifles :)

Word to newbies, In the words of our esteemed colleague "HUNGRY"
"Don't buy 1..........Buy 2" :) (He was referring to M14s though) But just as applicable here :)
