Hey guys,

I finished the testing today to join the club I want and am now looking to buy my first handgun to get my LTATT.

Looking in the EE I have a couple that I am interested in but have a couple questiions about the transfer in Ontario.

Does it go the same way as a long gun? Seller starts the transfer and I finish with a reference number from the seller.

How long does it usually take to complete? I assume not the 5-10 minutes that a long gun takes when all goes well.

Once the transfer is complete, I assume the seller gets the TATT to the post office and sends the gun to me correct?

Once I have the gun, my club will apply for my LTATT and when I get that and the other paperwork I can go shooting.

Right now, I am unsure if my first transfer will take longer because it is the first for that reason, I should buy from a local dealer, then when I have my LTATT I will look at the other things I want from the EE. Does having the LTATT make any difference in the time it takes to transfer a handgun or is every transfer a roll of the dice time wise in Ontario?

Hope my questions make sence

I can't speak for EE restricted transfers, but it will take longer (how long, I don't know).

As for buying from dealer. 1-3 days and the time it takes to be approved. Either pick it up yourself or shipped to you.

Buying restricted is just as easy as non-restricted from dealer. You do nothing. Just that when everything goes smoothly, you pay for your non-restricted and you walk out with it in same amount of time they write up receipt for you.

Being that you're in Ontario, your LTATT shouldn't make any difference to speed things up or matter at all when buying restricted. If you don't belong to club and dealer or CFO asks, just say you intend to join this club. Heck, when I bought my Norc M4 from Epps, they forgot to ask me for my club and I forgot to tell them.

When I bought my first pistol I wasn't a member of a club. I might have let on that I was about to join one, which I did. I didn't have any trouble with the transfer from the store, took about 1 business day.

Thanks for the replys guys, I filled out the club paperwork and am now a member :) Last night I bought two pistols from the EE so we will see how long the transfers take once the sellers receive payment.

John, that was an interesting comment about buying from a dealer, I may have to buy one locally as well. The local store has a couple I am interested in but the prices are a little high. I am still thinking about it.

Hopefully I can get everything completed and get out to shoot handguns before the weather turns here and the snow flies. Not that snow would stop me LOL.

Cactus: You're referring about non-restricted? I was surprised how easy it was when I bought my first shotgun. I walked into Epps, guy behind counter showed me a bunch, paid for it and walked out with shotgun and crate of surplus ammo for Russian SKS (waiting for in the mail). In the parking lot, the police was there just hanging around. I was like hmmm... What a strange feeling walking out of store with shotgun and big crate of surplus ammo. LOL! I then proceeded to check out gun store behind Epps and did the same thing. So I took home two shotguns that day. I basically bought 3 non-restricteds (including SKS in mail) that weekend.

As for restricted, I think all my 3 restricteds took 1-2 days tops to get approved via dealer. I might be days away from getting my LTATT! Been waiting 3 weeks already. I really want to test my reloads soon and once I find the sweet spot, I'm going to pump out 1000rds. BTW, if your handguns like cast bullets, you can reload for about $2.50/box factoring free lead and free brass. If my cast bullets work too, I don't think I will buy plated bullets anymore. :)
