In short, I'm asking about the corrosion AND wear resistance of an 870P vs an 870MM. Both methods are used for corrosion resistance beyond what blueing can provide. Corrosion resistance aside, is there significant differences in regards to scratch resistance? Should I be more worried about scratches penetrating the corrosion protection layer?

Looking for daily bush carry purposes in a cruiser vest scabbard...regular handling, often spending 10/hrs a day + whatever drive time inside wet scabbard, as long as the wet season lasts. etc. Which cuisine reigns supreme?

Thanks all,

Im not very experianced with the subject, but heres what my brain has assembled:

The Parkerizing is not that great a "surface" treatment (IE, for preventing scratches etc...), but it does more than just cover up the metal. It seals the pores of the metal and prevents rusting a little more than just on the surface. Its not very hard, and can come off a little easier than normal.

Nickle plating is JUSt a plating process. If it comes off it doesn't prevent rusting. BUT, nickle is probably gonne be a LOT harder to scratch off than parkerizing is, and its gonna be more rust restsitant as long as its on.

Again, i dont have a lot of experiance with it. The guns i have that are parked are not rusted at all, and i dont own a Nickle plated gun, so take my advice with a grain of salt :)

As long as you keep the gun maintained and oiled up well, either of them should work for you, in a harsh environment.

I've read that parkerizing is more of a carrying media for oil, its not generally a great rust preventative, unless you keep it well oiled. Thats what I've read, don't know if its true.

I own a marine magnum that is a police trade in and it has rust on it and not in places that were scratched. It isn't big spots of rust but rust none the less.
