hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post this, feel free to move it to the correct spot if not... but to get to the cruxt of it.. i am looking for a Finn model 28/30 mosin nagant.. its the only one that was chambered for .308 and it isnt all that common from what i understand... if anyone has some leads on where one could find one.. or if any retailers might happen to have some stock... i would welcome a message...:D thanks

You could try posting an add on the equipment exchange in the milsurps section. I'm sure if such an animal exists you may be able to get your hands on one through the EE.

The M28/30 was actually chambered in 7.62 x 54mm. The Finns tended to make the barrels tight and some of them may have slugged out to a .308 bore diameter instead of .311, but none were chambered in .308 Winchester. The M28/30 is pretty uncommon, I seem to see way more M27s and M28s in Canada.

thanks for the comments folks, and yes, it really is a rare beast... for nyles, you are correct but also incorrect.. they actually did have a post ww2 production chambered for the .308... hence why it is so rare and difficult to find... but, being the persistent one i am, i will keep searching..
so lets hear some opinions.. what is YOUR favorite mosin nagant everyone?

There have been no documented reports of the Finnish Army ever using any of their MN rifles chambered for anything other than the standard 7.62x54 Russian round (also known as 7.62x53 in Finland). They didn't even use a .22LR trainer adaptation which many armies did with their bolt action rifles at some point. Most things are mechanically possible, so I suppose a MN action could be re-barreled to 7.62 NATO or .308 Win with some modifications made to the bolt. Magazine feeding would be problematic though. I have a friend who used to re-jig No4 Lee-Enfields into custom heavy barreled,1 piece stock, single shot gopher guns in .223 Remington, a pretty dramatic makeover indeed.

K so I'm not crazy!

I have a Finn mosin, 1909 m91. Since purchasing it I've researched finnsh mosins, finn cartouches, manufacturer and models. I've yet to read or find anything on a .308 chambered mosin of any kind. Not to say that it couldn't be done or hasn't been done, but I've never read anything saying it was done by the Finns.

OP, just out of interest where did you get the info stating that the Finns built mosins in .308? I'd love to read literature about it if such a thing exeists.

well i might be sitting corrected... The Finnish rifles use a 7.62x53R. The same case dimentions but the Finnish guns were barrelled to shoot a .308 bullet not the .311 Russian...

A useful source for those wanting to know more about the MN rifles, incl the Finnish variations, is "The Mosin-Nagant Rifle", by Terence W. Lapin, North Cape Publications Inc. You can also check out mosinagant.net for more info.

Good luck with your quest,...they are rare here and will be a tough rifle to find..

true. Sold mine off and have never been able to get another, not after Century International went under. Great triggers, great sights, IMHO the cream of the Mosin camp, if just a smidgeon like toting a boat anchor around. As for ammo mine ate everything I stuffed in them with ease, from vintage Russian ball, to Hansen/Prvi, to Sako and Norma commercial loads, ahhhh the good ol days...

After WWI, Bannerman bought a lot of the Mosin-Nagnts that were Surplus. Some of these were re-chambered to the 30-06 cartridge, but some of these had a nasty habit of blowing up on people.

On one of the Websites, there was one person who had rechambered a Mosin-Nagant to .300 Winchester Magnum. That would be one rifle someone else could fire, after I had departed from the Range.

The action can take it but rechambering might not be the best idea.
