I have been looking for a finnish M28/30 for quite some time. Are they hard to come by in Canada?Anybody know of one for sale?

I've been a couple M28s over the years but no M28/30s come to mind. Might be worth importing one from the US before the firearm marking regs come into force this summer.

I have one I'm restoring. The original walnut stock was badly split at the crossbolt but epoxy fixed it nicely. I still have a few walnut plugs to make to fill in the old screw holes originally used to try and fix the split.

The metal parts are in nice shape with most of the blue intact and the bore is at least a very good with a trace of frosting. When I'm finished it should look good.

I could probably be persuaded to part with it.

I had one a while ago which some idiot tried to remove the cross bolt on and split the stock, it actually might have even been the one above. The thing I really remember was it was a early M28/30 built on the rarest of Mosin Nagant receivers a 1919 Tula!

It is the same rifle. I think you originally bought it from Frontier Firearms 2 years ago without knowing the extent of the damage and then you sold it to me for what it cost you.

I've restored a number of rifles in the past and I think this one will come out as a good looking shooter. It took some time to clean all the grease and debris out of the wood without causing anymore damage. Nothing more abrasive than a plastic bristle brush and a green 3M pad with Simple Green were used in cleaning.

I normally would not clean the wood of a military surplus rifle to this point but much of the stock interior was black and oil soaked and I had to thoroughly degrease the wood to get the epoxy to hold the break together.

I still have the pictures you used in your for sale ad showing the condition of the rifle as you received it. Someday I'll post the before and after shots for comparison.

Looking forward to that, I remember how angry I was when I found out the crack was due to someone trying to remove the crossbolt and that wasn't disclosed. When I told them that they even had the nerve to say it was all 'speculation' on my part and I didn't know what I was talking about. Definitely a good lesson on who not to deal with.

That wood needed cleaning, as if I remember correctly whoever broke it tried to glue the inside of the stock up and did a horrible job. Definitely excited to see the end result and it is nice to see that your putting the time and effort needed to do it properly!

Liberty Tree is also selling NOS M28/30 stock sets for $140. If I owned that rifle, I'd be just getting a replacement stock with original finish.

They won't ship that stock set to Canada. US sales only. Check the ad.

I had an unissued M28/30 stock set that I bought in the 1990's at the Ancaster show for $20. I never came across a M28/30 rifle so I sold it to an American collector in 2003 for $70 US.

Fair enough, but if it were me that needed one, I'd ship it to a US address postal box and then export it myself legally. No biggie. Google Myusaaddress - they even have an export brokerage service. Wood stocks are not export controlled to Canada.
