thinning the herd for retirement, so going through stuff at the back of the safe that maybe I can live without and I pulled out the first Mosin I ever bought( 5 or 6 years ago at least..It's an oldie with little nails in the forearm. The sights have the Russian lettering on the left. I bought because the ad said it had a "B" barrel and a quick read indicated that made it different than run of the mill, so , what the hey. Got, , meh...just a funky old rifle. cleaned it for storage. Got it out today and looked at it again. It has an hexagonal receiver. A SA in a box stamped on receiver then a B with a D below it.Bolt and receiver match. And, I just noticed, because I just learned;), maybe a Finnish stock, because the forearm has rounded fitted pieces just like the wartime M39 's have.

What do I have?

Yeah pictures I know, I know. I am old, antediluvian in fact,I can email pics but for the life of me I can't figure out how to post them. I use a MAC which makes it even harder I think.

Pictures would definitely help. But all "B" barrels Finnish M39's were assembled post-war, late 40' early 50's. Barrel blanks were brought from Belgium in the mid 40's, stamped with a 1942 date, then worked by VKT and later fitted to post war stocks. So your rounded splice war-time stock isn't original obviously.

Pristine bore.Never slugged the barrel, so don't know that detail. What does the SA in square box mean on the receiver?

The stock is from a wartime m91, but that's not unusual. The Finns likely recycled it off a worn out gun. After the war they scavenged what they had and put the resulting rifles into war reserve.

A nice b barrel m91 is likely a $350-500 gun these days. Pics will help narrow that.

they were assembled post war and have been used very little, you essentially have a brand new rifle.....best part about B Marked M91 is that there is very few of them outhere...... making it a very rare variant.....most were chopped into M39 by Finn arsenals..... i have read there is less then 5000 of those.....its a keeper in my opinion

Condition is everything on these rifles.

I have seen them go anywhere from $350 to $800+ for rifles in Good to Excellent condition. A lot depends on the locale and money available. Many folks won't wait or search for what they want. Some people think that's part of the fun.

Another pricing point is who did the refurb and who made the barrel. Tikka variants tend to bring top dollar in excellent condition.
