Finnish Serial Numbers

Hello,

How does one tell if a Finnish rifle (M-27 and M-39) is matching? Where should one look for serials, and are there any dedicated websites out there I can refer to for details?

Check out 7.62x54r.net & mosinnagant.net are both good . Usually the only parts that match are the bolt & receiver.

Yes bolt and barrel shank only, except for a very few and rare example encountered with matching numbers on bolt/barrel shank/buttplate and magazine floorplate.

I;ve looked up both Mosin.net and 7.62X54R.net however, and I know now what i'm getting. Question still, how do you tell if the serial numbers match? Were they made like the Japanese where the numbers don't necessarily match to the end of the serial number? I don't know. Help?

Depending on where the bolt serial is stamped, it may or may not be a complete duplicate of the serial on the barrel but it will usually have the last 4. Some receivers are also stamped with the serial. There are no hard & fast rules, only trends.

The serial numbers are on the barrel shank and the bolt knob or body. It should be a complete serial number, They may only stamp for example the last 4 digits.

Sounds good, I will have to check into that. Hopefully my M-39 is matching.
