Due for release Nov 2007. It is about the battle of Tali-Ihantala, 1944.

I still find the finns to be some of the most remarkable fighting men of the 20th century.

According to the movie's WIKI, the director wishes to make the movie as factual and realistic as possible, which is a welcome prospect.

We'll probably have to wait for it on video, though:( and will have to be content with Hollywood junk. I still have to get me a copy of Talvisota (Winter War) which apparently was praised by Spielberg prior to Saving Private Ryan.

Where did you find info on the film? I'd like to have my hopes up, but sadly all the good foreign war films just don't manage the trip against the pond when they don't involve american battles.

Great to hear that a new Finnish war film is being made.I have seen " Winter War".Simply a great film.Highly recomended.
There may also be another war movie based on the book "The Forgotten Soldier" by Guy Sajer coming out in 2008.In my opinion one of the greatest War memoirs ever written. Is is about a German soldier fighting on the eastern front in WWII.Hope the movie is as good as the book.

Cheers,Eric

No bloody way! Thats awesome! I wonder if Sajer is still around and kicking? I borrowed my copy to and Estonian Vet. I havent asked him what division he fought with, but it was probably the 1st Estonian/20th SS. He said the book must be true, because he went through a lot of that. But I am not too keen on asking him about his wartime service, as I am sure it was horrible. He has had a nightmare where he bit a Russian soldier in his foxhole, and he bit his wifes arm in his sleep! To imagine that it came to bighting is a horrible propect.

Unfortunately. I am still waiting for a good Canadian one, or something outside of the norm. We'll have to get the Finnish one off Ebay or Amazon.

I downloaded and watched "Winter War" last year, it was a great film.
If you've got a bit of computer savvy you can likley still find it for download on w ww.torrentz.com

SwedishMan may I ask where you got your Winter War DVD,just read the book, like to see the DVD

I have read the book "Winter War" the part I liked best was the Finnish Officer explaining how the Finns pulled a vintage World War 1 French cannon that was sitting in a town park for years to the front lines got it cleaned up but could not free up the recoil arrester and finally firing at the Soviet lines but needed two spotters one to see where the shell landed the other to see where the cannon ended up after firing

I saw another Finnish war movie, whose name escapes me, which was quite good. Focussed on a platoon of bicycle infantry in the Continuation War - fairly recent.
