Fire Hydrants

This is a photo of a fire hydrant with severly corroded fasteners. This is a dangerous condition for both the firemen and the people/property they are trying to protect. I spotted this while I was walking my dog. Have any of you seen this? If you have, you should report it to your local fire department and they will ensure it gets fixed. It is something the local budget cuts are causing to become a serious condition that we have to deal with before some one gets hurt.

Wrong forum.

But as long as the threads are still structurally sound, it won't harm the hydrant. Though it would be nice if your city/ fire department took better care of their equipment.
But, winter does do harm to anything metal which is outside so it's possible they haven't gotten to do their "spring cleaning" on that particular hydrant.

I've seen a number of them like this around my area.

In our area a few years ago, if you wanted the rusty hydrant painted, you went to the firehall , they gave you a pint of paint and away you went. Not sure if they still do that or not.

"...gave you..." That'd make far too much sense where there are over-paid, lazy, good for nothing, civil servant unions involved.

Hey buddy those fire fighters are members of the same community as you, that play a hell of a role. If you don't like their job then feel free to tell your neighbours not to call 911 if you have an emergency.

Besides we all know the only good for nothing civil (non)servants are the ones wearing the letters RCMP.

And btw that hydrant looks awesome, but fire fighters tell the flow rate of a hydrant by its colour so painting hydrants could be a bad idea.

Wow this is not how I wanted to spend my first post...

Well said, here's a little info on the NFPA colour codes.

BLUE- 1500 GPM or more- Very good flows
GREEN- 1000-1499 GPM- Good for residential areas
ORANGE- 500-999 GPM- Marginally adequate
RED- Below 500 GPM- Inadequate
