Firearm Registration Certificate

Do you need to carry the Firearm Registration Certificate(s) with your handguns when you transport them or have them at the range? How about non-restricted items like a shotgun? I haven't seen anything stating you do but a gun shop owner I was talking to said he does so now I am wondering what is correct. Under the slim chance if someone stole your case with the guns in it and the certificate was in there wouldn't that be like giving them the key? :confused:

You may want to look at the conditions on your ATT. Not sure about ON but line one says "The holder must be in possession of the registration certificate(s) for the firearms being transported.

I just keep mine in my wallet at all times, works for me, cause I only have 6 guns to pack a certificate for, laminated them as well to keep them in A1 condition.
 
Thanks to all that responded. My wife is copying them and laminating them at her work and I think I will carry them in my carrying case anyways since they do not take up any space. The Ontario ATT's do not say the certificate needs to accompany the transportation.
 
As suggested, make copies of all your registration cards and get them laminated. I keep a photocopied sheet of all my registration cards in all my range bags, rifle cases etc. I will always have a copy of a registration certificate available, albiet a photocopy, along with a photocopy of my PAL and transport paperwork. The local gun range is only a five minute drive, so if I am ever stopped and questioned further and need the originals, they are not too far away if need be. For hunting trips or trips away from home, I will take copies of any paperwork as well as a laminated copy of my PAL and the registration card for the firearms I am carrying.

It's a good idea to keep a spare set of registration cards in your banks safety deposit box.

Its a good idea, and what the legal, responsible gun owner does, carry any and all paperwork required by law with them at all times when you have that firearm with you. Think of paperwork as part of the team, firearm....trigger lock keys......ammunition.......paperwork. Good to go.
 
I photocopied mine twice, then I laminated the two copies. I put the original set in a filing cabinet so I do not loose them (again), put a laminated set in my glove box, and a laminated set in my desk at work in case I am doing transfers.

Photocopies of mine at work, and in a folding File folder I keep in my range bag along with ATT and photocopies of my RPAL.
Originals at home.

When hunting with a gun, I carry a laminated one in a ziplock bag in my Fagbag with my outdoor card and tags.

Yeah it is weird how your name is only at the top of the sheet and then when cut out, along the dotted lines they show, it doesn't say who the gun is registered to.....very strange. I am only gonna keep the wallet size one's for now.

Last year CO watched me gut a deer, we had a good chat while I was gutting. After I was dont and cleaned my hands I took out my tags and licences and after he looked at them and handed them back I put my tag on the deer.

Never a word about my 300WM sitting on the seat of my quad. :)

got to love Alberta :D
