Well as an update to my earlier post, I finally got to shoot the Benelli Ultralight yesterday. All I can say is Wow! This gun is fantastic. I shot 8 boxes of four different brands. The majority of the loads were 1 oz target loads in the 1200-1290 fps range, but I also shot Remington STS Managed Recoil 7/8 oz 1100 fps loads and the gun digested them perfectly, even spit the empties well off to the side. I did not have one malfunction the entire afternoon. The gun does have a more abrupt recoil than say a Beretta 391, but for the difference in weight, this gun is actually very comfortable to shoot. And fast, this gun swings instinctively and comes up to the shoulder faster than any gun I have ever owned. I am very excited for the fall and how this shotgun will be in the grouse woods not to mention on teal or mallards that I have hopefully been able to sneak up on.
I would recommend this gun to anyone as it fits into a very unique category for shotguns. It has the weight and feel of a 20ga or even smaller but the versatility of the 12ga. It is able to shoot 20ga equivalent loads and still maintains the supremacy of a 3in 12ga gun for ducks or pheasant. This gun handles so differently from any 12ga you might own.
Many guys I was shooting with at the club were very impressed with it and had lots questions. Benellis are top notch and the best part is the zero maintenance, all I had to do was wipe it down afterwards. It is not a target gun, but a hell of a lot of fun to shoot and will be like greased lightning in the woods. I am stoked, September can't come soon enough,
Cheers,
Patrick
