Not really a hunting question but:

Can you legally possess a firearm in an Ontario Provincial Park? I'm going camping on the weekend a long way from home and want to bring a 30-30 rifle for somebody I am meeting in the same area. (quite a distance from home)

The parks site just says firearms are not permitted but I am talking about locked away in the car.

They cant search your vehicle, so as long as your not flashing at around and get compained about, you should be good to go.

my understanding is for parks they must be kept locked and out of sight. I don't think there is anything about transporting them which is more of what you are talking about ...I think.

you can't have a gun in a park unless there is hunting allowed in the park, the season is on and you have a licence(rabbits don't count). you can transport through a park on a highway, but not into the park.

meet the guy before you get to the park.

There are a number of Provincial Parks where hunting is legal... the specifics are spelled out in the regulations.
You can Google "Hunt Ontario" or the MNR to find out which Parks etc...
The same applies to the other provinces.

You won't have an issue, as long as you don't start waving it around where people can see it. If one of those big city weekenders spots it, they'll have the CO on your back before sundown.
If you stop at the gate and explain what you are doing, I can't see why they would bother you.
I suggest you don't take any cartridges

You cannot posses a firearm in any provincial park unless consent is given by the superintendant and for just coming through the area, that most likely won't happen. If you are going on a camping trip I'd suggest handing it off before arriving. It could be a much larger problem for you if someone does catch sight of it and reports it as it won't be the wardens approaching your site, but most likely the boys in blue! And yes there are many provincial parks that have hunting seasons but I know in our area none are open currently and that type of rifle isn't legal to hunt anything in our area so that would not be a viable reason to have it. My advice, just don't take it in! More headache having a complaint about it then dropping it off before hand!
