Have anyone tried to fireform a 25-35 Win to make a 303 Savage? I would like to know as I just purchased a 303 Savage and as we all know it's very hard to find the brass. If anyone has any infomation where to purchase brass ( without paying an arm an a leg for it). Or infomation which cases to fireform please let me know.
Thanks Gerard

Make them from 30-40 Krag brass. Takes a little work getting things right but it can all be done using an electric drill and a file. The 30-30 class of cartridges do not have the same base dimensions as the 303 Sav and would not be the best choice. An article in handloader by John Barsness a couple or so years back detailed the procedure for using 30-40 brass.

You can make it from 307 win also. Now you say you don't want to pay a "arm and leg" for it so realistically what would you pay? With lathe and trim work and the added annealing process what would your time be worth. Then take into account first time failures/culling it starts adding up. New brass with proper head stamp starts at around .50 cents each US, then add exchange, shipping, taxes and CBS fees and you are over a buck a round.

I offered a member on here once fired Domonion or Winchester for a buck a round shipped and they are still performing CPR on him;)

But seriously, I shoot some calibers that cost me $5 each for the brass and i accept it for the obscurity of the cailber.

If all you want is 303-S brass for hunting, I simply run 30-30 thru a 303-S FLS die, load it appropiately & go shoot it. I know the base is approx 3 thou smaller but they work fine for a single fireing, then throw brass away.
