I purchaesed a svt 40. I took it to the range a few weeks ago and it would not fire. The firing pin was striking the center of the primers but not hard enough to cause it to fire. The primers had very shallow dents from the firing pin. It appears to me the hammer is not striking the firing pin with enough force.

4 out of 10 fail to fire

I have cleaned then weapon and inspected all the parts. All looks great ! I have also adjusted the gas setting and it works flawlessly to extract and reload the cartridges on successful fire.

What could the issue be ? Worn firing pin? Hammer spring weak ?

I have had issues with a couple of my SVTs not liking Chinese ammo. Hard primer? I'm not sure. I just feed the misfires into my Mosin and they work. Try a different brand of ammo after doing what the other guys have said.
