Hi,

Lets say you want to know if your firing pin is working properly, and you can't test fire you gun. On a revolver, thi is pretty straight foward, i know, but how to do this with a pistol??

Having a plastic pen touching you firing pin down the barrel and pulling the trigger to see if the pen moves, is it a good way to do it??

thanks

The pen test is pretty good. Muzzle pointed up. Depending on the gun, the pen may just get a little jolt.
Here's what I do to function test.
Take a snap cap or a fired cartridge, and stick a small square of electrical tape just big enough to cover the primer onto the case head.
I like to use snap caps as I can chamber them from a magazine, which is kind of tricky with a fired round.
Pull the trigger on the dummy and eject the round.
You should see a firing pin hit printed in the tape.

Regards, Steve

ok, thanks for the trick.

But I would like to know if the pen test is safe for the gun?

thanks

In my opinion, yes.

If you have an aluminum rod or a wood dowel that fits through the barrel, you can point it straight up and "fire" it as well...
