ok i am looking for a well built low cost good out of the box i have rifles shotguns and handguns but was wanting to saving money as i hate spending 50-75 bones for an hour of plinking pop cans and paper so i need a low cost rifle:ar15:

"marlin 795" like it but have not have if it is good and holds up well?

"mossberg 702" looks good but what is the difference this and the marlin?

"savage 64" do know know much about this one but for $110 i well toss it but have read that some people say how bad it is are that knock for it price?

"marlin 60" i heard tube-feed system are slower to and bend easily or is the 60 worth going for any way

what one should i look into?? :runaway:

ruger 10/22 i dislike the trigger i know that are kits and you can build one from parts if you really wanted to but i want this just pinker out of the box deal plus 10/22 are $210 in my area the ones above are under 130

marlin 60 i heard tube-feed system are slower to and bend easily or is the marling worth going

also want i jump the boarder need to be able get parts and stuff in canada :canadaFlag: :50cal: :canadaFlag:

Forget Ruger.....
I had that question a 6 month ago...
Everyone suggest 10/22, don't fall for it....bad move unless y want to spend more then y paid for it to make it works better...
Month after I got 10/22 I went and get Marlin 795....inexpensive, very reliable, Ruger collecting dust now, when I go to shooting range, all my budies shots my marlin, no one wants shot my Ruger for some reason, Marlin had no single jam, a few FTF with Golden Crap from Remy but it has nothing to do with the gun and last shot-bolt hold open future compare to Ruger, makes it best candidate..
The only thing I don't like on Marlin is iron sights...they are not the best one for sure..
Marlin 60 will offer you a larger capacity magazine...I believe 12 instead of 10 (795) and it's easier on your fingers with a tube feeding system (60)..

Is your heart set on new?

The EE is a great place to find inexpensive, quality rifles that my be a few years old... but they still work great.... I got a used Brno #4 off the EE last year... built in 1957... most accuate, quality built, rifle I've ever owned...

Otherwise, I hear great things about CZ452's and I'm sure someone will chime in about them soon... Savages are decent from what I've seen... but I would give serious consideration to the EE.

Buy used, you'll get a better rifle for the $
This CIL 171 cost me $250 to build including the cost of the rifle!,and it will shoot tight groups with the anchutz's all day.
And theres lots of cheap cooey's out there that will amaze you and can be had dirt cheap

Very well said. Marlin 795 has every thing better than 10-22 out of the box. my first gun is also a 10-22 and sold it quick, none of the features of the gun are user friendly. The gun was poorly designed, the only good thing is that you can dress it up but I am not that kind of people like to modifly my gun.

For a plinker yes it must be a semi, for decades my bolt mossberg has worked well still does, but it does not hold a candle to my 10/22T in pinking fun now the 10/22T is not an econo plinker, but it's the same action as the plain carbine, it's been as expected as long as I clean it between 500-1000 rounds it is as reliable as any other semi I have seen.

Stay away from the savage 64 it's the same thing as my cooey 64 and that is a jam-o-matic. Even if the savage is more reliable field stripping the gun is a pia at least with the 10/22 you do not need to pull that barrel off to clean the action. I don't know abut the others as to field stripping.

10/22 parts are quicky available in Canada, plenty of US outfits ship the stuff to Canada anyway.

Just as a contrast my marlin 917 needed a new bolt it took 3 months to get the new bolt from Marlin to thier Canadian sevice depot.

.22

the marlin 795 is the best bang for the buck in the .22 world right now (imho) for $175 you get accuracy/reliability and a nice gun to carry on or off the atv.and a last shot hold open that actually works unlike the remington 597 at least in my experience.

I have a rem 597 and I've had awesome luck with it. the hold open issue was solved quickly for me when I took the back little plastic box apart and cleand the springs. I shoot yellow jackets out of it and I go a couple hundred rounds before I get a jam. and usually it has more to do with the guy who loaded the mag then the rifle :) the mags though suck. the springs are weak. the replacement mags havn't seem to had that problem. I bought mine 6-7 years ago and I've shot probably 20,000 rounds through it (easy). for a 300 dollar gun (when I bought it) it's been more then worth the money. I've had 10/22's and they suck - you shouldn't have to buy a plinker for 200 bucks then put another 400 into it to make it shoot worth a damn.

Seems everyone hates their 10-22s except me. For the price point it has served me well . Any gun will jam up if not looked after.Mine eats all LR 22s , with a rare ftf. Accuracy seems to be ammo sensitve as much as me the shooter for what it is ,a plinker(out of the box)
And anything you may want for it is available anywhere.
YMMV :D

sorry it tok me so long to get back the site was down yes semi- auto is what i am looking :50cal:

i guess not everyone liks there rugers i am looking strongly at the marlin 795 how hard is parts for it to get up north?:canadaFlag::ar15:

I like my 10/22 as well but I bought it to slowly build it up, play with the internals and get a better understanding of how the insides of a gun work. I hate stock 10/22s but for about 60 bucks, you can fix the mag release, trigger pull and bolt lock. Then you've got a beauty. It's too bad they don't start shipping them with those mods, they'd change a lot of minds I think.

I have a 10/22 stainless with wood stock, open sights. I use it for gopher shooting, works like a charm. I haven't "fixed" it up at all, nor do I plan to. I might put a cheap scope on it this winter, as my 60 yr. old eyes aren't what they used to be. I can fire all day - 500-800 rounds - and not have to clean it. Easy to strip and clean. Oh well, what do I know....:p:p

I have heard alot of good things about both 795 and 60 marlins. They're both the same action, just choose your magazine. I own a Ruger 10/22, and I like it, but I want a marlin too. You can make quick loaders for tube fed guns using drink straws. Mags are better for day to day seat of the pickup truck rifle, but when I want to blast rounds, I wish I had the tube feed.:50cal:

stovepipe: Would you mind expanding on the "drinking straw" speed loader? I have a nice old Savage 6AB that sees duty as a gopher shooter. Thanks in advance. :p:p

I bought a mossberg 702 & a remington 597 this fall, and heres my experience. The 702 is super light, rear site adjustable for windage/elevation.Not the prettiest girl on the block.Have shot 1500-2000 rounds through,no fail to fire,or fail to eject. Not bad for plinking, not a target rifle.Groups open up when warm, and doesnt take long.Inside gets filthy after300 rounds(mine anyways) or so.Easy to take apart & clean, look at book.Rem 597,2500-3000 rounds through.I've had ftf &fte, someone already said the mags suck, they do.Was fussy for first 150-200 rounds, now pretty good, shoots well, even when you keep feeding it.Mine doesnt like remington ammo.I know you didnt name remington as a choice, but food for thought.

i have had a 10/22 for awhile and other than having the trigger cleaned up, 30 bucks and throwing away the barrel band as it was doing nasty things to the harmonics it is a wonderful little tack driver. the fact of this became annoyingly clear when after buying my son a mossburg 702 for Christmas, i took both my son and my brother in law out to the range. as i was overseeing the shooting my son was doing with his new tool, my brother in law whom i taught to shoot this last spring went about shooting all my tacks out of the corners of the targets =/
