Hi all,

I'm looking to pick up a used budget ar.
I found two at 499 at a dealer.
A norc m4 14.5 .223 mint condition
And a American tactical omni ar 15. New condition

I am buying online so i get no hands on.

Which would be a better rifle?

The poly set doesn't trouble me as i have a nea upper and lower on my 22lr and could switch them out.

I put a deposit on the norc but worry i may not have choose wisely.

Your time and opinions are appreciated.

You want an honest opinion?

A brand new SW would have cost you only a few bucks more...

300 out of my price range with tax.

Norcs will go bang with the rest of them. But it's Russian roulette if you get a good one. Most are fine. If you want to add or change stocks, front stock, triggers, rails, optics etc, you may have trouble as Norcs are famous for being slightly out of spec. From 2 feet away, they look like any other AR.
If the online store will warranty the guns, then I can't say you made a bad choice. However, I agree with Mike. A US made S&W is a much safer and trouble free option.

We have 2 Norcs ( Dominion Arms) and both have functioned well, very happy with them. I have no doubt that higher end guns have a better fit and finish, but as a first AR I have enjoyed mine and would absolutely buy another. At the price of $499 that you are looking at I don't think you can go wrong.

I'm very confident the Norc will go bang (in a good way) when you pull the trigger. As such, I'm confident you'll have fun and get addicted to AR's like the rest of us ;)

Stay with the Norc.

I've seen a few Poly lowers break at the front pin.

Just realize though if you decide to upgrade some parts may require a dremel to make them fit.

You should take a look and make sure the American Tactical plastic lower doesn't have "thin wall" in the lower receiver. That issue is talked about in another thread about the RCMP lab is not happy about some of the lower receivers that have "thin walls" on both sides, and considered them to be converted auto.

I got a mint 14.5" Norc. w/some extras for about $550 shipped-& she is my first AR. I'm very happy with it & it's ate everything & no issues what so ever. Quality seems decent enough. Already waiting on getting a S&W as well..Good deals atm...Def. keeping the Norc still. .

also know that by having .223 you won't be able to put 5.56 nato through it...in good conscience anyways.

Norinco AR15 is chambered in 5.56mm.
Bytheway, I have a Chicom AR15 back home which is legally converted(by just a drop in auto sear and full auto trigger group) to select fire and it works like sewing machine in full auto mode.

It's really not as big an issue as people make it out to be. Slightly elevated pressures compared to a 5.56 out of a 5.56 chamber but we're talking 2000ish psi more, so very slight.
