I shot today for my second time with center fire and my factory Fclass 308. (4 times if you include 100m zeroing)

500 and 600 came easy the first time and this time was good with
a string of V bulls at 5 and 600m. Good wind and lots of luck.

Well... 800 meters held me down and A** raped me.

It was sighting shots with conversion on last. A 5 followed by 2 or 3 Vbulls.
Then '0'. Complete miss. While setting up for the shot the wind changed from right 90 to left 90.
Then flags at point and butt blowing left, flags at 4 and 600 meter blowing right, and wind at my back. What the hell is that??

It is really hard to believe the damage 200 meters did to my score.
It was me btw. Other shooters dropped one to 5 at 800 twice, I dropped 10.

Tell me I'll get past this. f:P:

practice practice practice!! thats all you can do, reading the wind way out there is one of the most chalanging things to do.

if i read you right this was only your 4th time shooting a center fire rifle? if thats corract it also sounds like you need to learn some patiance, shooting long range takes alot of time to master hell even to be "good" at it takes a s**t ton of practice

you want to make it a real chalage, get out into the rough hill terrain and you need to pay attention to EVERY thing, the way wind drop off bluffs, up hills, threw channels / canyons all change wind speed and direction, shooting at 800-100 you cna have 4 different wind values goin in 5 different directions

Nope you won't get over it and now you'll question your existence and rifle and loads constantly and continually tweek you load even though there nothing wrong with a sub MOA group. Yeah.....welcome to F-Class now suck it up Pudding and go shoot some moooorrrreeee. :)

There were more than a couple of 0s posted on scorecards yesterday at the Eastern championships, by myself and some far more experienced shooters. At 900m I went 5,4,0,V at one point and didn't touch my scope.

While I was pretty pissed at the time I was reminded by some of my fellow competitors that it's all a learning experience and that unfortunately some lessons are all little more painful than others. If you were stringing V's together on your first time out it sounds like you're off to a great start!

Hope to see you at next year's Eastern Championships; we're really missing not having anyone from down east this year.

That's where the 0 came from.;)
Connaught is an interesting range from the standpoint of wind. The new dividing berms haven't helped.

@MarkHFX I assume you were shooting at NSRA's Bull Meadow range. Were you shooting on the 6'x8' target frames when you are at 800?

Bull Meadow can be a *hard* range, in its own particular sort of way. Don't feel too badly if on occasion the range spanks you, badly, and it seems like you just can't figure it out no matter what you do. Other ranges are much more "readable", and make a lot more sense. Then again, if you can hold together and eke out some sort of score on Bull Meadow, you'll find you will shoot _really_ good scores on other ranges....
