Why come out and shoot Action Rifle League CQB matches? Because its 2016!(Drops mic and walks away).

It's 2016 and Action Rifle League is starting up on Feb 6th out in Abbotsford again. We have 6 dates already confirmed for Abby this year. They are Feb 6th, April 2nd, June 4th, August 6th, October 1st and November 19th for out Grand Prix Final that will be saturated with great prizes again! Last year we gave away a Bushmaster AR and a Seraphim Armoury .45 pistol! We will also hopefully be shooting at least 1 or 2 matches in Kamloops this year at KTSA. Still waiting for confirmation but road trips are always fun! In other news we now have a sweet second course of fire that starts at 15m and works its way back that we will integrate into the grand Prix scoring. Probably be something like we still take your 3 best scores and the winner takes all, but one of them can be the alternate COF. Details yet to be worked out.

For the third year British Columbia has its own competitive rifle league!
On Saturday Feb 6th 2016 , Action Rifle League brings the Close Quarter Shooting Series, to the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club. Action Rifle League has put together a bunch of competitions at various ranges around BC in an effort to get people off the bench and into the exciting world of competitive shooting. Nothing other than basic/safe gun handling skills needed! We use a fine balance of "Big Boy" rules and at the same time have multiple layers of safety in place. Participants will shoot snap matches, rapid fire matches, move and then shoot, shoot rifles until empty and then transition to pistol. Time will be short so drills better be smooth! Wipe the bench rust off your ARs, your type 97s, your RFBs, your 858s, your SKSs or whatever center fire rifle you have. Got an Enfield or K98 you want to try? Bring it out, but be ready to work that bolt faster than you ever thought possible! Targets are anywhere from 10 to 35 meters away. You can’t miss right?!
Participants will to need to bring a few things:
 A rifle. Semi autos are the standard, but feel free to bring a military style bolt gun if you like.
 All rifles must have five (5) detachable magazines capable of holding minimum 5 rounds each OR be capable of being loaded quickly with stripper clips.
 Sights for your rifle. Scopes, red dots, Elcans, irons or whatever, it’s your choice!
 A sling for your rifle which will allow the rifle to hang in front of you, not over your shoulder.
 A reliable pistol with 2 magazines and a holster with at least one level of retention.
 You are also going to need some way to carry all your stuff. Tac vests, belt kits, chest rigs or just big pockets are all viable options. Whatever you prefer!
 150 rounds of your favourite rifle ammo and 50 rounds of pistol ammo should cover you for the day.
 Eye and hearing pro are mandatory.
 Dress for the weather and lunch will be available from some sort of food truck again(I believe this time it's Hunger Management!).
Mandatory range safety briefing will take place at 09:00 and all participants must attend. DO NOT BE LATE FOR THE BRIEFING! If you don’t attend the briefing, you don’t get to shoot. We have lots of safety issues to run through and squadding to organize.
Match fees are now $50.00 for non-members or $40.00 if you are a member of Abbotsford Fish and Game Club.
Please RSVP to actionrifleleague@gmail.com as soon as possible. Spaces are limited so register NOW!
Bring a positive attitude and come give this a try. It’s perfect for those that have never shot a competition before and fun is guaranteed! Just ask anyone who shot the last match!
Hope to see you all out in the new year!

Figured I'd ask, my ar is zero'd for 50m. Should I be zeroing for 25m? What can I do to practice for this event? Mag changes? I'd assume I should be practicing off hand.

A 50m zero is very very close to a 200m zero which is a really good zero for an AR.

It will also be what I am running. You just need to know where to hold as you move in.

I zero at 35, and aim at the wrist (top of the "five ring") all the way through; makes it easier to ignore holdovers. Practice for me is mag changes, offhand, pistol... Hmmm. Find a kneeling position you can assume fairly quickly? I played with this at home a bunch.
Did you get the course of fire from Longshot yet? Some of the relays give you a fair amount of time, some...not so much:). A shot timer is great for practice, a stopwatch works fine too though. Even a watch works. Anything to see approximately where your time's at.
Can you practice rundowns at your range? Something to practice at home again, running down the hallway to a mark on the floor, and ending in your chosen shooting stance.
Day of the match, talk to your safety before you shoot, make sure they know where you're going to hold your rifle so they can be quick with the chamber flag...seconds count:)!
What else...is your sling set up to drop your rifle so it's out of the way when you draw your pistol?

I haven't gotten the COF yet. I assume the wrist in figure 11? I have a cut down version of it, will print and shoot that. I don't think I can do run downs at my range, unless its dead (Mission) or no RSO without any fudd members. By running, its a short sprint right? Like 5m?

I bought a plate carrier today and some taco's. tried that on for size, realized my lar-15's are about 6" too short. So its either getting extensions from GS design's or two more 30 rnd Pmag's that need to be filed down to fit properly.
How should the rifle sit on you while hanging down? I shoot left, so it seems the forward assist keeps getting caught between the taco's. Unfortunately I don't own a CF pistol anymore (sold last one about 3 weeks ago?), luckily longshot is letting me borrow one. Then again even if I did own a pistol, I couldn't transition as my range is pistol or rifle only. So the pistol portion should be interesting, I do have a 22LR p226 still but no holster. I will practice mag changes and such with it anyways, as the Longshot's pistol is also a p226.

Sorry, yes, the wrist on the Fig. 11.
Short sprints, yep...Five meters for most, the longest is ten meters.
To make my Alberta Tactical mags stick out the top of my Tacos nicely, I cut down some styrofoam inserts from a 9mm ammo box, maybe something like that would work for you?
A new plate carrier sounds cool! If your rifle is hanging up between your rifle mags you should not have a problem. If the rifle stock when slung is getting in your face or it's interfering with your pistol stance, then maybe tighten/slacken/change the mount/etc. We start each relay with the rifle, then sling it, and transition to pistol, so as long as your slung rifle isn't interfering with your pistol holster or pistol mags, you're golden. There's no forward movement with your rifle slung, or transitions back to rifle from pistol, so sounds like you shouldn't have a problem? Towards the new carrier (if I may), for most of the relays, you need to be able to access two mags quickly. One relay you need to have three within easy reach. There is generally time to shuffle things around to your "favorite" spots on your rig. Five mags total to the firing line is the recommendation by the match director, I recommend seven if you can swing it (even to stuffing a couple in cargo pockets, just burn through those ones first). If you can't carry that many, no biggie, they allow people to bomb up their mags between exposures.
Definitely practice your transitions and pistol manipulations, kudos for having the identical pistol with cheap ammo!

Cool, yeah not the stock is around my chest above the last 30 rnd PMAG. I was looking for some sort of hard foam, will grab a box from the range can on saturday and cut er up.
I have the ability to hold 5 magazines on my PC, 2 doubles and 1 single on the side. I guess I could use the single for pistol mags.

Buying the PC was cool, same with the tacos.. Putting the damn malice clips on was a major PIA. Took me almost 1.5 hrs to put 3 tacos on the PC. I had ZERO clue what I was doing, for the first one.

Whoever designed those things is chock FULL of malice. Needlenose pliers is how I make them sit up and beg. Also pre-flexing the webbing holes I'm going to use.

Pistol mags, you need one in the magwell, one on your body? I'll have to check that one.

I can appreciate the sentiment, even though I haven't had much exposure beyond YouTube...it's a fairly pricey course to learn how to safely draw and holster a sidearm.

At any rate, if I can scrape together enough cash to get a 9mm before the Feb match, I will be all over attending! I thought I'd get more range time in before the first match though, I'm still shaking off the rust and re-zeroing the rifles!
