So im looking for my first AR. Mostly would just do some plinking at the range and trying to improve my skills (no competitions for now)

The Daniel Defense M4 Carbine MK18 5.56 Factory SBR 10.3" Black RIS II from wolverine supplies really caught my eye. Its on sale for $1500 right now. I know if I go for a cheaper make for my first one ill eventually want to upgrade to a good quality AR. Im single and have the money to spend now so im thinking why not go with the Daniel Defense. Any one have any suggestions on this particular one or something that I might be missing as a first timer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks :)

It's a great sbr. I love mine and will be hard pressed to ever sell it. It's good to go out of the box and has one of the best names in the business backing it.

I replaced the trigger, the stock and the grip. keep in mind that was a personal decision and not because it had to be done.

If your interested in getting into ar's this is one piece you will be impressed with. And remember this price is great, I got my fde MK18 last fall and with how the dollar is I foresee a big jump in price on US made guns so just keep that in mind. Last year's pricing on the current model is around 1800 I think.

Only possible downside would be an inability to take it to competitions in the USA because it is sub-16" and a SBR. But if that isn't a concern you've picked a winner with a great track record!

Since the OP described this as his "first AR", of course it's a good choice, because he is going to buy like 3-4 more in the near future anyways! ;)
The mk18 is right at the top of my wishlist!

Great gun put together with great components. I love the "pointability" of the 10-inch barrel. Get a red-dot for it and don't look back. Get a few 10-round mags and you are all set. There are cheaper options out there but if your budget fits, you won't regret the mk18.

As suggested above, not a terrible idea to change out the trigger at some point. Nothing wrong with stock, but I put a SSAE in and loved it.

I put the same trigger in from new, never even tried the DD trigger but the SSAE is fantastic

And while you are waiting for it to come in...check out the laser/light thread a few posts down...for some decorating ideas!!
You will find most of us in all the Mk 18 threads...and help out any way we can, and do not forget to post pics when you get it.
Cheers.

you cant go wrong with a DD MK18.. fantasic quality rifle and a ton of fun to shoot. I bought the complete DD MK18 upper from Wolverine supplies (excellent to deal with) and installed it on my PWS lower. Seen below with an EOTech 552, Insight (EOTech) M6X light/laser unit and Magpul PRO BIUS:

I just have to recommend against using Geissele triggers, especially the S3G trigger... I'm sure that company is a front for the ammo manufacturing industry! You can just feel your bank account melt away as you're squeezing the trigger as fast as you can get the dot back on target! :sok2
