I recently bought my first AR15 on the EE. (This might be a dumb question but i can't figure out). I is registered as a lower only but its an entire gun. Do i have to register it as an entire gun? what involved with this process?

Any in put would be helpful. Thank you!

Call CFO tell them you have a receiver that is ready to be registered as a rifle

They will ask the stupid question of what barrel length just tell them whatever length you are using and wait for new paperwork

If you plan to keep it in the configuration it is in, register it as such.

You have 30 days to register any changes to the rifle. Some people will keep the lower and upper(s) separate as the upper is not a controlled part and register the lower as frame only. Install the upper you wish to use when at the range and remove before returning home.

Just my understanding.

Thank you for all the information. This is all super new to me (restricted firearms/ registration). I can't wait for the weather to clear up so I can get out shooting.

When I bought my lower off the EE and registered it, I was asked by the CFO if I was going to use it for target practice or collecting. I said I was building up an AR it was going to be used for target practice when its assembled. Was this some sort of a trick question as I thought you had to have a special RPAL to be a collector.

I've always viewed it more along the lines of "are you going to use it, in which case we'll be checking that you have a range membership, or are you locking it in the back of your safe?"

Does that mean you are allowed to "collect" restricted firearms, without being an active member of a range, if they never leave your house? Do you have to get them reclassified when you finally do build up lowers into complete rifles?
