Well I have always wanted an AR-15; but instead I opted for the more practical firearms that weren't so heavily regulated and restricted. However I plan on moving down south perminantly eventually (Not California) so why not grab myself a nice versitile AR-15 platform?

Problem is affordibility and versitility. I was thinking at Bush Master in 7.65? Nato round. I don't want to go uber tactifag. But I was hoping I could get the rifle for maybe 1300 plus tax with just the stock items; maybe put on a nice reflex scope or optic.

What do you gentleman think?
 
Well if I recall from my last trip down south the ARs were significantly cheaper there, so depending on when you move you might just grab one there. (Unless I misunderstood what you were asking and you were already planning on getting one in the US)
If I was you I'd just buy an upper and a lower and put one together myself, if you look for good deals it can save you a bit. Also if possible get something chambered for 7.62x51 NATO or 5.56x45 NATO because then you can shoot .223s or .308s out of it without worrying about the pressure issues.

Haha sorry I just realized I didn't really answer the question, but thats just my .02$
 
Why buy here??

Wait until you go south. Get yourself A full-auto and sound suppressor (if that state permits it).

WHY?? pay $1300+ here when the same rifle is $850 across the border??

The AR platform is not versatile here, it is a Range only gun. Down south it is a widely accepted hunting Rifle.

you really wont find much here for that price range anyway. Except a Norc that will be like 700 and you will not be able to take it with you. A nice Bushmaster or Stag will run you minimum 1400 or so from what I have looked at. Maybe we will soon see what the new canadian AR for under $1000 is like.

Yes, Canadian AR. But will you be able to take THAT south of the border? The US state department seems to treat us 'Allies' as a threat when it comes to firearms.

Well 1400 won't break the bank. I know I can get a perminant license to move my firearms, I just gotta plan my route through counties when driving across and avoid cali, #### their laws are worse then ours! Of course I could just fly mine over, might be better haha.

Yeah i'll grab an upper and a lower; 7.62 is exactly what I was going for btw!

I would buy south of the border, and read some of the posts from the US forums to see where the deals are...
 
Wait until you settle in down south before you buy it, with the money left over from what you would otherwise spend up here, you can pick up an AK ;)
