Title is self explanatory, here are the specs:

Omni Hybrid Gen2 lower (got it for christmas)
DMPS LPK (small parts only)
Spikes Combat Trigger (from the Enhanced LPK from Spikes)
Tapco Intrafuse Buffer / Stock kit.

I'm thinking i'd like an MOE fixed Carbine stock for the future and probably an MOE K-2 grip. I dont have these yet but they're next on the shopping list.

I'm looking for a stripped upper with a shell deflector but no forward assist.

So far the only 2 I've found are the VLTOR MUR and the NEA Slickside.

the NEA is about 1/2 the price of the VLTOR, which makes me want to get it. Plus the grey colour is kind of growing on me. I think a 2 tone look would be desirable assuming I could get all the accessories to match the grey.

Are there other Uppers without a Forward Assist that are in a decent price range for a first timer?

Any particular reason for the slick side, Or is it just wanting a Billet Upper?

As an aside, One Shot Tact did have & should be getting some more of the Rainier Arms Billet Uppers in again. IIRC its' somewhere around the Vltors price range. It's equal in terms of fit & quality to the Vltor and is a possible option on the Billet front.

I think Aero offers a "Slick Side" Upper, but it is forged unit. Sask Gun Works is the Major dealer for them.

The Vltor is worth the money, I've had no issues with mine, nor have I heard anyone complain about theirs.

Cheers

I would get the Vltor over the Nea IMO. But it depends on what your looking for. Will both work excellent for years Yes. Will they both look good on your rifle YES. Will You ever notice the difference if You never see the other probably not. But if You put them side by side then You will see the small quality differences. but eh I'd also try to find a Noveske upper before either but that is often a difficult task.

No specific reason for a billet or forged or whatever else. I just don't want a forward assist. Preference... Aesthetics. and not using it for war are my main driving factors in that decision. I'm confident that the VLTOR will be my best option. But I'll check out Aero as well.

As a side note... is the spring for the detent on the pivot pin the same as the spring for the detent on the safety? One of them just shot across the room and i'm having trouble finding it. I thought I found it but i'm starting to think taht's just the spring for the safety. So many small parts... ><

Don't forget the Rainier from OSTS either, they're every bit as equal to the Vltor.

The truth is the receivers on an AR really only exist to hold the working parts in the correct orientation. I have 8 uppers from a number of different manufacturers from Colt to NEA. The Colt ones are not nearly as nice as everyone thinks and I have not had any issues with the NEA ones. So in the end it really doesn't much matter what make you buy. In the real world, cost is definately a factor.

Rainier makes a forged upper without the forward assist, very clean looking. Les Baer has a forged one as well.

No idea as to availability up here.

Doesn't site sponsor S&J hardware make their own uppers now?. I have dealt with S&J hardware several times and have found them fair and honest.

I'm a NEWB :) I haven't been taught a thing! :p

Honestly everything I know about the AR 15 I learned from Travis Haley and Hickok45.

NEA sounds like Norinco in a lot of posts. Some guys say they've been shooting them for years and never had a problem, some guys are saying they're junk and not worth the money. I am looking for a stripped upper, I'll buy all the parts separately once I get to know what I want to use. Not sure if I mentioned that yet.

the nea upper does not fit the OMNI hybrid lower, i did the exact same thing your thinking and it looked awful and doesn't line up.
