first bear for me

Congrats Kevin, you got some mighty fine eating there. Try making some burger or jerky with the meat or a nice stew.

Deano, any sign of that sissypad while you guys were hunting?;) :p

Congrats on your first bear! I am hoping to get one this fall. I will also be using an old sporter 303. What load were you using?

i use only the federal 180 gr loads. the second most accurate factory load in my gun. the imperial sabre tips and remington loads tie first for accuracy, but imperials are scarce and the Remington RN jams on the feed ramp. it's funny, i was gonna take my .32 win special 336 out, but opted for the old reliable .303 instead. good thing too, last time i took the .32 i discovered the firing pin was busted!

no DF, no sissy pad insight that weekend

Nicely done Kev! That was a hell of a shot, by the way.

It was a good thing you shaved that day, or they'd wonder how you got a T-shirt on a dead bear . . .

Really guys, Kev is a fellow with a mighty frame. That bear would be HUGE next to one of us regular l'il guys.

I haven't tried Remingtons, but I am having occasional feed issues with my hand loads (Hornady 174gr round nose). They seem to pop up on the front and hit the top of the chamber. Is this the same as what you guys are seeing? I was thinking it might be because I am keeping the over all length well above normal, as my rifle has a very long throat. I have no feed problems when I put milsurp ammo through it (174gr FMJ spitzer).

Has anybody that has tried Steve Redgewells 200gr bullets had any feed issues?

Hey, those smaller bears are the best eating ones anyway!!

Here's a hint for your chops - get rid of ALL the fat entirely. Connective tissue is fine but no fat - it'll ruin them for sure. If you're cooking them on a grill or something just roll 'em in olive oil first so they don't get dry - but slow cooking is best.

Ahhhh - might want to find a different camera man next time tho :) i think this one didn't really think the shot thru :)

Way to go Kev.......Nice shot!!!;)

Guess baby bear won't be needing that bowl of oatmeal and goldielocks can stay in the bed....

Guess your glad you didnt take the Krag....
