Hey guys

Sorry but another "I need advice thread" I just got back from course and am looking for some advice. I would like to get better on my drills and shooting but being an officer I'll have to shoot at home if I want to get practice.

Barrett and KAC look awesome but definitely out of budget. I had been considering a Daniel Defence or SIG for awhile now. Now that I am back I see that Colt Canada is also offering a civilian C7. Anyone be able to comment on quality differences between these three and provide a recommendation? I can't really decide what models of each brand I'd consider, so getting that specific would be helpful too.

When the ACR DMR preorder first came out I was very tempted to jump on that band wagon since it is NR (If they had offered it in Tan I have went with it) What does an ACR have over an AR other than it being NR? (Why does the US military even use them? Seems like it just means a bigger inventory to manage) I see that there are rumours floating around that the restriction status could change but no idea on how much stock to put in that.

Seem likes having an 18.6" barrel either way wouldn't be a bad idea if laws did change.

Thanks

I have a Daniel Defence M4V5 with around 5000 rounds through it and I never had a single problem with. I think its best affordable rifle out of the box if you want free float rail. I handle and fire the Sig at my Club it's a nice rifle but I think you can get more for your money. A few months back I would have tell you to build one because its fun, you can save a little bit and have all the parts that you want but right now with all the specials on complete rifle its better to change the parts. Right now my advice for you is to jump on Irungun deal, a Colt 6920 for 1099$ USD that's amazing!!! You can add a Geissele trigger(the best) and a free float handguard and it will be almost the same price of the Daniel Defence.

OP, what's your budget, do you want non-res, what do you want to do with this rifle? To give the proper advice, we need to know this.

Budget would be up to 2K if I were to buy immediately (which I probably won't be doing as I want to do some landscaping work still this summer) but I could definitely save up the extra cash necessary to do ACR if that was the route I decide with.

Obviously NR is what I'd prefer, but at the same time I'd like the rifle to be almost exactly like the service rifle.

Regarding the Irunguns 1099 Colt deal. How does that one differ from the Colt Canada one (barrel definitely, but what else)?

+1 on the Daniel Defense. Great rifle for the money. I have only owned one other AR brand, but have fired a few others, and although I don't have all the experience in the world with these rifles, I can honestly tell you that the Daniel Defense is well worth it...especially if it's going to be your first one. I would love to own a Noveske, LMT, or even a KAC...they are awesome rifles. But for a well priced rifle, and a great performer right out of the box, I'm really not too sure if a Daniel Defense can be overlooked.

Keep your eyes on the EE. There have been a few DDM4s listed over the last little while...some of them are well-priced, and most of them have hardly any mileage. Good luck!

Course / drills / officer - if your intent is to mimic the shooting and drills you use when using your service rifle then buy the rifle that is the closest match to your service rifle, same stock, barrel length, twist rate, optics, etc. Buy the same mag pouches or load bearing equipment. Use 5/30 magazines so they fit the same way as real 30 round mags. Set your gear up exactly like your service gear so muscle memory is the same.

If you just want to use your marksmanship skills to go out and enjoy shooting buy any rifle you like. I would pick a non restricted rifle that accepts 10 round LAR mags myself.

I didn't read all the answers you got, I love my dd m4v5 and it is price right! Irunguns.us has a colt 6920 with tan furniture for 998$ you simply can't beat that for bang for the buck rifle!

On nr side well it's harder to find a "great" deal,

there the vz58(800-900$) 223 or 7.62, but unlike the cz 858 well there quality has ben spotty, and poor mounting solutions.

there the mini 14/30(700-900$) I'd say less then average performance on the accuracy department and if they crap on you your scude plus hard to find mags and well less then average ergoes.

There the t97(1000$) with bad ergoes and I would say a expensive and permanent mod to mount optic. And alot of owners have experience bullets being push in the cassing and jamming the gun on occasion; I would most certainly not trust my life to it!

There the kel-tec su16 (700-1100$ I think) well it's pretty close to a ar ergo wise with the stock mod , but with a polymer receiver and report of it cracking I steer clear.

Benelli mr1 (1600-1900$) good gun, accurate pencil barrel and reliable supposedly, but they try to reinvent the wheel with the ergo ( think polygon instead of round) and they suck for most but its a new training for it, feild stripping it is not fast.

Norc m14 (450-550$) great gun pretty good bang for bucks, I got 2, I love them but in order to be up to spiff they need to be a bit thinkerd with, usually nothing bad. You need to add a rail to mount optic on it. Luckily there great after market for them in the us and Canada with m14.ca +1 for the m14

Irunguns. Us ps90 with nr barrel (2000$ us) well it's a good deal.............. if you don't plain to shoot it ;)

Xcr (2400-2600$)...... a 1000-1400$ ar with a huge NR premium (sorry guy's) alot of people like them but 90% would drop them like yesterday s new if the ar would become nr. Try telling me that it's a better gun then a dd!!??

Tavor (2600$) well... it's fielded by the idf, it's a awsome gun with a bad trigger . It's a real good gun but wen you think off irunguns 998$ colt 6920 well it's hard to think about it as a deal.

Fnar (1600-2000$) precise for a semi, heavy, od ergoes and mags wonderfully price at 110$ a pop

Rfb (2400-2650$) short 1.25-2 moa gun, hit and miss reliability with steel mag ( usually 200% with thermold mags) requires the user to read in the manual to set the gas setting, fair to good (depending on how deeply engraine your manual of arms is) ergos. Unique 308 bullpup semi auto rifle. I love mine, it's 100% and its my g2g gun..... not best bang for bucks...unless it would be at us pricing (1300-1900$)

Dmr acr(2800-3200$????) I don't know to much about it but to me a baseline is a ar15 and I don't see it being better then a 1400-1800$ ar... ar you willing to pay the premium?

Arx 100 ($????) Picky on mags... read dmd acr

It's all my opinion so take it for whats you think it's worth and sorry for skipping the sub gun's and the pistol caliber rifle it's late here.

Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will hold off for now. It sounds like there will be more Diemaco models to choose from in the future and maybe if I'm lucky there will be a regular ACR with longer barrel available.

+2 on the Daniel Defense. I have a DDM4v7 (2014 model) milspec+ in Cerakote. Very accurate and solid. I paid $1600CDN. I don't think you can go wrong with DD.

this

or save enough for this,

just dont go in between, you will always wonder what if....

And why Wont your unit/department let you have some range time? They spend the money on the assault rifles but not the training?
Sorry don't mean to prod, just curious. My vote would be dd as well then xcr for non res.

A dd don't leave much space for what if's... a ambi mag release is cool but serve zero purpose for a right handed guy like me...

Btw very good looking rifles!

Because they have tight budgets and a qualification day once a year is "good enough."

Guess we know which department he's with.

I'd recommend Daniel Defence. They are really well made rifles and keep a decent price.
I own a DDMV5 and a MK18.

The MK18 is unfired as I need to still strip and oil it.

The DDMV5 has been to a couple shoots with Abbotsford Tac shooters and has performed well.

i had an le6920 that i bought from irunguns last year.

nice rifle, smooth transaction.

regret selling to fund something else and am thinking about ANOTHER irunguns colt.....

Thanks!
Ambi is an added feature, however not THE selling feature of kac.
shoot a kac you will be like brad Pitt spending the first night with Angelina, your dd will soon be the ex named... What ever her name was ....

I agree guys the KAC does look amazing, but at this point I could never justify that much for something range only. I live in Saskatoon and still enjoy going home to my small town to shoot and something that expensive would have to be NR. A range only DD is definitely an easier pill to swallow.
