Well, I have entered my first competition taking place next weekend. It is only a fun shoot but should be good practice for next year when I hope to enter a few PITA events. Here's the schedule.

Day 1:

25 - 16 yard singles.
25 - Handicap. (Your yardage is your single score plus two yards)
25 - Handicap.
25 - Continental.

payouts for 1st through 4th, best score out of 100.

Day 2:

100 - Handicap
100 - Handicap ( Calcutta )

Should be fun and good experience.

Sounds like fun. We have a shoot tomorrow. It's 100 16yrd singles, 100 handicap and 100 doubles. It's a long day of shooting. By Continental I take it you mean Olympic or bunker Trap? I wish we had a range for that near here. The closest one is about a 4 hr drive.

Have fun
Tim

Same as regular trap except it is shot over a wobble trap and you are allowed 2 shots to kill the bird, lots of FUN!!!

This is correct. The birds can come out anywhere from really low (approx 3-4 ft above the ground), to almost straight up. They also have ours set up so that they come out quite a bit faster. It is fun but I find it hard to recuperate from shot one ( a miss) to hit it with shot two. I can do it but it is easier if you don't miss the first time

Wobble trap is lot of fun

The targets should be coming out faster, Technically they should be going about 70 meters at the middle of the elevation setting but unless you use real international targets you can get a lot of breakage.

Also because of the poorer areodynamics of an ATA target its hard to get them to fly that far anyway.
We usually, if using ATA targets, will just set it up to throw them as fast as we can without breaking too many. If you can get some international targets try it with them as its even harder as you can throw them the full speed and they don't slow down in the air as much as ATA's and fly flatter.

Ok the shoot was a blast. You shot all 4 rounds ( singles, 2- handicap, and the wobble) and were given a score out of 75 (they took your best 3 rounds).
So I shot a 24 in singles which put my handicap at 26 yrds. Now this was not good since 26 yrds is a bit long for me. However, I shot 20's in both handicap rounds and shot a 20 in the wobble. Score total 64 out 75. Not bad for my first but could have been better. The handicap was the killer, since I usually practice at 22-23 yrds. It is amazing how much more difficult it is being 3 more yrds back. Anyway it was sure a good time.

Nothing wrong with those scores for a first outing. The only way to get accustomed to competition shooting is to shoot more competition.
