Just took a 37 1/2lb male coyote with my 25-06. A lesson learned, 90gr cxp1 ruins the hide when shot facing away from the gun. I wanted to take him through the back of the neck but the bullet hit him in the center of the back and raked down the spine. Dropped him instantly but the hide is a wrightoff.

Ya I know. Ida liked to have it tanned just to hang in the gun room. Hopefully this guy is the one that has been circling my house everynight getting my dog all fired up. Nothing like a basset hound singing at 3am in your bedroom

pics of gun and dog!

maybe we should get a sticky for all the shot coyotes?

One of the guys in our deer hunting party had a pair of coyotes stop in front of him at about 20 yards. We had just started to dog out the bush so he didn't want to shoot and screw up the drive so he watched them as one proceeded to squat and start to have a dump. At this point he couldn't hold back anymore so he cleared his throat. I'll leave the resulting picture to your imagination.

VMAX is the way to go!

Last Winter I shot a wolf broadside from 50yrds with my .270 using 110gr VMAX handloads doing 3200fps. Only a small entrance wound, AND NO EXIT WOUND!!! I was duly impressed & will continue to use this bullet for varmints. Unfortunately the animal I shot had mange so the pelt wasn't usable.

Where in S. Ont are you guys? I'm in the McGregor Harrow area.
This is gonna be a banner year if the tracks are any indication. I shot my first bow yote this year and shot a black/grey one yesterday with the '250. All bow season I heard them going crazy on my one Anderdon farm I hunt.

25-06 messes up a yote pretty good but as stated the hides are next to worthless so who really cares. Shot one during deer season that was facing directly toward me at about 150. 100 grain TSX entered just below the chin and exited left of the butt hole. He was rather mushy for a lack of better discription. Does Saskatchewan still have the 20 buck bounty on dogs?

No more bounty in Sask.
The one coyote I shot with my 25-06 was very, very dead real fast! I would not use the 25-06 for coyotes with anything but a FMJ bullet if the hides are to be used.

I hit one with a 35 Whelan and a 225 gr Accubond. I did notice a fair bit of hide damage !
You could tan it right up to edge of the whole. LOL !
