;D Took off late this PM to try for some coyotes - we don't have many and I was told that some had been hanging out near the landfill. Walked in a road system in the area, noticed three sets of fox tracks in the snow (< 4") and a couple of larger tracks made before yesterdays snowfall.

Set up on a hydro line next to a cut over. Put the caller upwind and sat on the side of the power line with my back to the setting sun. I had preloaded the CD with a 20 minute segment from Varmint Al's web site, hit play and headed back to my hiding spot across the line and donned my snow camo. After two minutes, rabbit screams, another minute or two, another rabbit scream

Then I realized that there was something big and gray across the power line from me. Picked up the rifle but realized I was looking at an adult lynx, staring in the direction of the caller. I watched it for two or three minutes (kicking my a** that I forgot the digital camera).

Then it walked across the hydro line toward me and was about 30 yards down from me when the caller launched into a coyote howl sequence. It didn't like that and scooted across the line and into the bush behind me.

Pretty neat - this is my first time doing this and it was cool to watch something come out to the caller!

Well with my $8 dollar Linx tag in my Pocket I wish I was you;)
Excellent job......Cats are not easy to call in by anyone's standards so I guess it's a Good Omen for your New E-Caller.
Well done !

I used my Preymaster for the first time today and called in a coyote. To make a long story short, I screwed up. It was pretty exciting though.

edit to add...excellent experience you had and having made your caller I'm sure it was all that much better.

Cool experiance for sure. I have only seen two lynx in the wild, they sure are neet to watch and very elusive.

Last year I was driving into a good spot to set up the spotting scope and look for sheep. I saw some tracks in the fresh snow walking down the trail in front of the truck. Assuming that they were wolf tracks because there are lots of wolves in that area.

I followed the trail and tracks for about two miles. When I turned the last corner before getting to my spot I saw something moving about fifty yards away. I grabbed my binoculars off the seat and had a look. It was a very large lynx, he sat down behind a dead log and just sat there watching me as I watched him. We watched each other for about ten minutes, then he just slowly walked away looking back every twenty yards or so.

Very cool to see no matter when and how you see them  I really need to get a better digital camera...

I bumped into not far from my Bear bait five years ago, to say it caught me off guard is an understatement! He didn't like me either and took off right away but what a moment to enjoy afield, that made my spring bear season, even if I didn't get a bear!

Thanks for sharing!

I think you got the bug. Now it becomes an addiction. Have fun & good luck !!!!!

Now #2 - I had what I believe was a wolf today. Set up on where I hydro line crosses a haul road (near Wawa) overlooking a valley - could see for 700 - 800 yards, so was a good spot. Set the caller going, after 45 minutes, nothing. Caller was doing dying rabbit squeals only. Wind was blowing up the valley / hydro line and into my face - road was behind me.

Went and picked up the caller, walked over a small hill and down to the road, and there were fresh tracks that came running down the hydro line behind where I was sitting and stopped at the road. It crossed the road to the base of the hill I walked over, and then turned and left - probably scented me as the wind was blowing from me to him. Tracks were the size of a tea saucer.

Going to need another hunter to watch my back!

As mentioned earlier, I have a previous post on this forum with the plans!
