First day back at the range.... Disappointing

Took a hiatus from shooting at the range for the last few years, work always got in the way. Renewed my range membership this morning, packed up an AR I bought back in December, and made the drive out. Hadn't been there before, the facility moved and expanded over the last couple years.

Figured I'd spend my day off getting to know my new shooter. About 40 rds in, the stock collapsed as I fired. Pulled it off, some material sheared off the notch on the buffer tube. Re-assembled and tested it out, seemed solid. Maybe I didn't have it locked in position, not sure. One shot fine, second shot collapsed again. More material gone, and stock collapses with a little pressure on the butt.

Short range trip, spent more time driving there and back.

Should have packed a second rifle so I could at least have kept shooting. Back at home now, pulling stock/buffer tube off. Already ordered a replacement C8 2 position tube, but need to find a stock to go with it. Previous one was a commercial aluminum 2 pos repro and I will be putting it on the shelf.

The stock pin was apparently not engaging the notch enough, I'll have to make sure the replacement does.

Frustrating. Oh, and apparently my eyes have degraded enough that I have to start wearing my glasses when shooting as I can barely see a 3" circle on paper at 100 yds now.

That's gotta suck. Humm, maybe someone sold you airsoft crap?

For long drive range trips, I carry backup everything so as not to waste a trip.

I got it (stock and tube) from a reputable source here on cgn. I don't know enough to know the difference between real or not but I doubt he would do that. As for packing extra in the future, that was the first thing to cross my mind while standing there looking downrange with nothing to shoot. At least it was a beautiful morning to be outside!
