First Goose Hunting Trip

Went on my first goose hunting trip this past weekend. We were supposed to take a helicopter up to get snow geese but that fell through. Even though we didn't get to ride the helicopter it was still an amazing experience taking the train up to Moosonee and seeing how unique the environment is there. Ended up getting 15 Canadas and 1 duck over the weekend. Highlight of the trip was walking out on James Bay in about a foot of water to get to the flats near Ship Sands Island. Where we were shows as just out in the water on most maps. We were trying to flush any birds out and this flock of 38 Canadas flies right towards us. We figure they couldn't see us because of the sun. Insanely lucky!

Geese on James bay is a bucket list trip for me. It used to be a much better known location for “sports” to shoot geese.

We’ll see. Hoping next year that the coordination is a bit better and we do actually get to go on the helicopter to go after snows!

I have banded and hunted geese on the Hudson Bay lowlands , truly a different and .magical place.

It's too bad that the goose camps of the 70s and 80s are no longer in existence....
