Who will get the first one this year? There is so much snow here in Sask that I doubt I will see any untill May.

We just got close to a foot last thursday......sad because the week before people had started seeing the little flield rats out of their holes...

Hopefully I can do my part to deciamte their numbers this summer :D :D

gopher season

Maybe tomorrow, the other day I seen some standing on a mound in my hay field surrounded by a sea of white. Last year we shot our first gopher on Feb 26. If the sun shines tomorrow I might have to go wack a few to get the season started-----Cowboy

I need to find a new patch this year as the pastures I usually go to have been pretty much cleaned up. The gopher calls you can get at Wholesale Sports work pretty good.

Who cares: If I ain't gonna eat it I don't shoot it.
Gee, thanks for sharing that with us. Do you mind if the rest of us keep the rodent population in check anyways?

LOL: Feel free! Just felt like stirring up some poo. Thanks for biting. Now I can get back to work.

I killed a gopher on thursday or friday... I did not shoot it though... I seen it had ran into some steel tubing, so i poked it out with a stick, and into my hand(short tube, 3feet long) And then I put it in a box for a wile... It was trying so hard to get out, I felt sorry for it so I CRUSHED IT WITH MY HANDS!!!

CamJ I hope your hope your home/house gets infested with rats, and mice.. and that you can't get rid of them. :)

even though I dont have a varmint gun right now (2 on the way), I will try my best with either a 12 gauge or a 308 (depends what my mood is when I get home :D).

A .308???! Aren't you going to wait for them to come out of their dens? :D

Hell, if I had a 50 BMG, I would be using that. Hmm.... dammit, now I gotta find a 50 cal *LOL*

Actually, I went out today but it was too cold. I didn't even see a gopher, let alone shoot one (only had a 12 guage O/U). God I hate this wind

If u hate the wind, I think yur definately in the wrong place!! LOL!
I spent many years in Lethbridge and watched a lot of topsoil go to Coaldale and Taber! Moved to BC and spent the first week trying not to fall down as I was so used to compensating for the wind...Then again, your vehicle gets superb gas mileage when heading east....
Cheers
dB:)

Who says I dont eat em? :D:D

I live in Coaldale. Shouldnt need to anchor down the house for a few days...actually been pretty decent! Cant wait for the snow to go and the gophers to come LOL!!

Hey guys how does a boy from B.C. get in on some gopher action. Is out of province hunters able to hunt small critters with a host from alberta ?

It's not really hunting as you do not need a license or are subject to a season. As long as you are following the rules and regulations for firearms in a unpopulated area you should be okay. The best way is to get to know a few farmers and ask them. Most farmers offer money to get you to go shoot them as they are pests.
