So I attended my first gun show of the year here in the Okanagan, BC, and was happily surprised to see it so crowded and well attended. Then my first table caught my eye. He had a nice Winchester M1917 and a Mauser I've never seen before- a Peruvian Contract Mauser 1909 in 7.56 x53. At first I grabbed it thinking it was a Gew 98 which I've been on the hunt for-which it really is but just a commercial contract to Peru's military, but off course everyone knows this. He did have it labeled as a Gew 98 though which threw me off. Anyways, both rifles were priced at about $1,900 or so. He said he would sell me both for $3,500, but this was before I realized it was not a German Military Gew 98 in 8mm. As I moved on and realized what I had almost done I was shaking my head at how expensive guns have become. I know about inflation. What is the going price for a model 1917 in good condition and say a Mauser 1909 made for Peru anyways? lol

What was the condition of the Peruvian?

Bolt match? Most dont. Excellent condition, bolt matching and you were in the correct price range. It was maybe even in the lower price range.

I saw the firearms the OP saw. They were both around 85% inside and out, depending on the eye of the beholder.

The asking prices on those rifles was on the high side IMHO but you don't run across these every day either.

OP, again IMHO you're splitting hairs when you're insisting on "GERMAN" issue/owned Mausers of any Mark or Model.

The rifle you looked at was made in a GERMAN factory to very high standards, that may have exceeded the quality of what the GERMAN military might have been willing to pay for.

The Lange sight was dropped in favor of the flat tangent style on later rifles because it cost more to build.

Those rifles were very nice, but the sticker price on them was pretty high. Lots of people fondled them but no one laid out any cash.

There were a lot of people through the Penticton show this year.

Due to health concerns, I didn't have my usual two tables there. If I knew I was going to be feeling as good as I am, I would have gotten enough stuff together to make a vendor appearance. Oh well, I'm going to have tables at the upcoming Kamloops show on the 22nd of April.

For those in the Cranbrook region, they are also having a show the weekend before I believe. Maybe someone can confirm this???

The fellow to get ahold of is Duncan 250-422-3469 or Rick 250-427-9744 or kootenaygunshow@hotmail.com

Kevin and Brenda always put on a good show. Vendor attendance was down, which seems to be the norm this year.

The CFP lines were down, which seems to be the norm this year as well. Both phone and internet connections were impossible to utilize.

Typical government anything SNAFU.

I own a Peruvian 1909 in excellent consition with correct bayonet (not matching #s to the rifle)
The bolt is not matchung :(, like most.

This is one of the most beautiful contract Mausers you can find, and it is very accurate.
